Coolant Tank Leak

Hey guys,
Having a coolant leak issue. Wondering if swapping out the coolant reservoir tank would be the 1st step to remedy most cases of coolant leak or is it more involved.

Thanks,http://www.e-partssales.com/miva/mer...96WaterCooling

996 coolant tanks are notorious for failing; is yours yellow? If so, you most likely just need a new tank (I think it's a revised part). The tank, ideally, is white.

I had a coolant tank leak, a couple of months ago, and yes, mine is a 2002 also. Also buy a new radiator cap. I swapped mine out in about 1.5 hours. Undo the hoses and the coolant level switch first. Place a small hydralic floor jack with a 2X4 across the length of the oil pan, undo the 2 nuts holding the engine in, lower the engine, then wiggle tank out, (it's a real Bit$$# to get out), harder to wiggle new tank in. Once new tank is in, raise engine, put your 2 nuts back in, attach hoses, coolant level sensor, and fill up with antifreeze, make sure you hoses are clamped in good.

Thanks guys, I will have to take a good look to see where leak is coming from and color. I've been reading from older posts that ID'd the res tank as usual culprit. Scuba, should i see cracks?

There wasn't a crack, but a very small pinhole leak underneath the inside on the tank in the middle, basically if you look at the top on the tank where the pressure release valve, it's under there, to the outside of tank.

If you PM, with a email address, I'll take a picture for you, and send it you

On the new tank, they reinforced that area.

My 1999 C2 coolant tank started to leak a year ago. It was a yellow one. I had the tank and the cap replaced and that took care of it.

You should have ordered the coolant cap also.

Had mine leak 2 weeks ago. One night, I walked into the garage to discover a green puddle and it appeared to be dripping from my driver's side exhaust. It was the coolant tank, had a small barely visible crack due to age and heat. Dealer charged $560 to fix it. Fortunately my extended warranty took care of most of it.

So turns out the tank wasn't leaking, it was the nipple from the bottom connecting hose. My cousin had one of his mechanics do the job for $150...which basically included replacing tank and changing out hose.
