Modded exhaust sound loss overtime

Hey guys,

I'd like get some views on whether TTS owners with aftermarket exhaust have experienced any decrease in exhaust sound overtime after the installation possibly due to the ECU adjusting to new exhaust...

Thanks,

Bigrich just stated the same thing happened to him with his Tubi exhaust. He has an open thread.

Yes I believe the exhaust sound decreased either as the ECU got "use" to the Tubi or after the open Porsche Campaigns I completed. It could have just been a coincidence, but I specifically noticed the sound difference after the Porsche Campaigns were completed. Last week I completed GIAC stage 2 so I'm wondering over the next hundred miles or so if the exhaust will regain its original sound. Still sounds great and is fast as hel!

I cannot see how that is possible that the ECU got "used to" the new exhaust. It does not monitor exhaust sound, AFAIK.

Maybe someone with better knowledge of how the ECU works could explain how that is possible. The only working part past the headers is the O2 sensor/cats, and that has nothing to do with the exhaust note.

I think it senses less back pressure and quicker spool-up and makes adjustments. I need to run with my TT under the overpass near my house with the windows down to see if it got quieter. Hard to tell with the windows up. Now that it is freezing, I don't open the windows unless I have to.

The only thing the ECU might do that reduces exhaust note is reduce fuel supply. The exhaust is louder in Sport and Sport Plus mode than without them enabled. Not as many burbles and pops without either one of those enabled. So my guess is that there is more fuel supplied in sport and sport plus which causes stronger detonation on each stroke thus producing a stronger exhaust note.

Anyway, I have had my car for three months now and it had the aftermarket exhaust already installed but I haven't noticed any loss of sound over time.

Big Rich,

I'm curious if you have contacted Champion and if they had any thoughts about the decrease in volume.

No I really haven't. I know that the ECU will adjust to mods after a certain amount of time, according to Austin at GIAC. Plus since I had stage 2 installed I haven't given it much thought. I also do wonder if it's maybe in my "head" that it's not as loud. Maybe I just got use to the sound lol
