Holes drilled in muffler?

Hey all,

I've lurked on here a couple of times and decided to finally jump in on the fun. I tried to search for some results but didn't quite find anything. I recently bought an 01 911 and got it checked out by a couple of different people prior to purchase. The only really unique thing I found is the car has 4 holes drilled in each muffler.

I can imagine that may help in a couple of different ways but is that common to anyone? I really like driving the thing and after years of day-dreaming I now can understand the Porsche following. Anyway...curious to hear any feedback.

Thanks in advance,

-Verbal

Not normal for a Porsche or any car for that matter. Would get the mufflers replaced if I were you. Plenty of used Porsche mufflers on fleebay.

Never heard of doing that. Can't think of any real reason to do it either. I would replace the mufflers. I would be afraid to ask what others 'mods' have been done.

That was it actually. No other mods. I work at a dealership (not a Porsche store) and had one of our techs look at it pretty well. Then, took it to an imports shop down the street and had them look at it too. It's in pretty good shape. All the monitors are on and everything seems to work well....except I've got to figure out the darn memory seat!!...the previous driver did not have my legs that's for sure.

Down the road, it will need front brakes and possibly 2 rear tires. But the mufflers were the only thing that really stood out, unusual. I think it makes it sound a little different. Since it dumps just a hair earlier, it may give it an extra pony or two but I wouldn't think anything noticeable. Again, I thought it was a bit strange and was curious if you guys had come across that or if could be problematic. But it looks more like maybe a silly experiment someone did. Thanks for the feedback..

On the old air cooled cars the slick mod was to pop a couple holes in the air box to breathe easier. I guess is the other end breathing easier.
Enjoy your new car!

I didn't catch that this was an '01 when I first read this. I was thinking maybe somebody overfilled the oil, and decided this was a good way drain the excess out of the mufflers?

It was a cheap way to make the car sound like it had an aftermarket exhaust.
Loudness doesn't always equate to more horsepower!
