Homemade M8x1.25 thread chaser

Needed to clean out some cam tower threads. If you don't have a collet stud holder you may wanna consider chasing down the Snap on van cuz it's one of the best tools I own

Turbo

After much debate I finally narrowed my search down to two that were both great fits on a twinscroll 500hp EFI 930. The two are the Garrett GT3582R and the BorgWarner S300SX 83-75.

The BW won me over due to it's dependable journal brg with oil only cooling setup. The fact that it can make up to 310 ft-lb of torque at 2000 rpms and 5 psi of boost helped me with my decision as well as the 487 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm at 15 psi of boost...hope I can keep it between the ditches

Impressive, especially at the low end. I have Garrett myself, no idea anymore what type, but mine is probably outdated now. My boost does not start creeping up until about 2600 rpm, don't remember my torque, HP is 423 at the wheel but at 1.2 bar. I normally run at 0.9 bar

I bet that's about all you need though. Are you running a nice set of free flowing headers and fat muffler?

I've got a set of RarlyL8 headers coming that should make this puppy scream

Additionally, I ordered the turbo with the billet compressor wheel, so my numbers should come in better then expected

I have some custom headers fabricated by Prototech in Ft Lauderdale, but they had some issues. I actually have to run 2 boost controllers since a single 46 mm Tial could not bleed off enough boost, and boost kept on creeping up. My muffler is just a oval can with 4" outlets. If you look through the muffler you can see the turbo spooling :-)
Great for flames though, on track I used to shoot 4-5 footers with every shift

Flames are cool!!

The RarlyL8 headers come with 2 - 38mm TiAL waste gates and have a true split pleumn, so they sould create a hurricane

Galley Plugs Needed

Anybody know where I can source 4 galley plugs that I think are M10x1.0???

I ordered the 4 oem splash tube plugs for the cam tower, but once they arrived I realized that the holes had already been tapped, so I gotta find some plugs

EDIT: McMasters had socket head set screws that should work fine.

are you putting steel synchros in while you're at it ?. I did on mine, more preventative than anything else, but since they are in there anyway...

Yep and pretty sure all the 1987 930 gear boxes had the Porsche steel synchos. Additionally, those synchros don't like the new super slippery synthetics, so a gallon of high dollar Swepco dino is going back in there too

2ndary/Turbo Oil Pump, Oil Tank and Lines all out for cleaning & rebuilding

The pump requires 2 new seals, o-ring and a new drive pin/dowel, but otherwise looks great.

I think the trick will be to get the oil lines for the forward oil cooler off the thermo/pressure junction w/o messing up the aluminum threads on the housing.
