Starting down the slippery slope - '87 930 3.3L Rebuild EFI Conversion

Last Sunday I bought a 1987 930 that had been sidelined by a broken head stud. The PO started the project and did a lot of great work, but has now passed the torch to me. This will be a beautiful puzzle

I started out last night by measuring the cylinders for bore spec, roundness and taper...all is well!

Fire Rings

Anybody know if I have room for fire rings in these cylinders & heads?
8-8.5mm for head width
2.5-3mm for cylinder height

I'll follow along. Would love to do one of these myself but don't think I'm **** enough to make sure all measurements and clearances are within spec. My motor was build with EFI in mind (Motronic), but just seems sooooo expensive.

you're not going with 3.4's ?. As it was explained to me, main reason why Ruf went to 3.4's is that the cylinders had fins all around which was better for cooling. If stock ones are perfect I guess it is a good money saver.

If these Mahle's weren't so bullet proof, I'd be upgrading to 3.4s after their 24 year 120,000 mile life, but they are absolutely metallurgy masterpieces
