991 Turbo or 991 GT3??
I was very disappointed that the Turbo did not get PDK-S. Other than the gear ratios, the shorter throw paddles, and sequential layout -/+ setup for the gear lever both did not make it to the Turbo from the GT3. I guess they are probably saving those features for the GT2!
I am reviving this old thread to show what I meant by the Turbo will be faster in most hands and more precisely when the condition degrades.
These are 997s, but under bad condition in pro-driver hands, the Turbo was 3 sec faster than the mighty GT3RS. Now imagine, with a simple tune (1000$) and exhaust (3000$), how much faster would the Turbo have been?
Don't get me wrong, GT3s are great cars, on a warm sunny day, the table could turn. But it's not always warm and sunny...
(Video is in french but the visual is enough to understand what is going on).

Interesting & clearly all wheel drive has advantages on a wet road like that.
What would you say about the PDK role (in turbo) vs manual (GT3) role for 997s in this video?

Certainly true and the 991 Turbo S is even faster on a dry track than the 991 GT3. (See the German Sport Auto test).
Porsche made the Turbo almost too good. They've left themselves no more room for a GT2, which will probably disappear from the range. All this power in a 2wd/lighter version of a Turbo S will not make it any faster.

It's just more food for thought when people need to choose between the two cars. If you don't track, the turbo is the hands down better car. If you do track, the GT3 usually is the better car, but it depends on many factors. This video shows what happens during a rainy (and cold) track day.
What I meant by many other factors is again, driving skills of the driver, type of track, track condition, weather conditions etc. The GT3RS being the better track car, doesn't mean it's always the fastest car on a track.

lol....sorry..I'll stop using similies on this thread....and yes, I do get your point and you are right!
Especially when you say the rarity plays a role here. In another thread on this forum, many Porsche enthusiasts prefer a slightly used MP-4 over a new 991 Turbo (almost same price class) just because of the rarity/exclusivity factor (though I prefer MP4 for several other factors)

BUT - as was mentioned above (adequately), power doesn't always equate to faster lap times.
Other factors always at play.
I'm not sure the GT3 would benefit from the insanely aggressive 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears of the Turbo? 60mph in 3rd gear, I wonder if there would be traction issues? And first, for example, wouldn't even see duty in turns 2 & 11 at Laguna, right?
If we are considering amount around $200k, I would buy 991 GT3 and 993 C4S
GT3 would be highly modified for track usage, and 993 would be all-season daily drive.
We could see some big 991 Turbo S depreciation. There are few reasons for that:
- In turbo-charged range, 991 GT2 will be very appealing, since Turbo S is insanely expensive;
- I claim that design is very important for depreciation. If car is aggressive/nice, owners don't let go their babies so easy. If their car is super fast, but looks dull, they will get rid of it since they are aware that their new Turbo will be even faster

Regarding your opinion about the 911 looking dull, that is definitely an opinion. My wife thinks they look very nice (but she can't tell the difference from a 991 and older models, much less a base and a Turbo).

Rarely have we seen a car, that hasn't been released yet, depreciate because of what the model that follows would speculatively be like.
