991 TTS 'vert vs 458 Spider
991 TTS 'vert vs 458 Spider
Hi again,
Some history - been lucky to have owned a few pretty amazing coupes in the past, however never been in a location to enjoy a convertible. The old dogma that coupes have improved structural integrity vs. convertibles probably doesn't really hold nowadays due to improved engineering. So here goes, I'm really keen on getting a convertible, something that will be a weekend warrior.......also to keep > 3 years.
I haven't driven the Spider and may be difficult to do so before order in placed while I have taken the new 991 'vert for a drive and enjoyed it tremendously.
What are your opinions on a 458 Spider versus the 991 TTS convertible?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,

Cheers,
I haven't driven either car.
To me, the 458 is like a super model, let's say Miranda Kerr. Super gorgeous, will turn heads where ever you go. The figures are out of this world.
The 991TTS is like my girlfriend (or maybe yours idk). Very cute, very fun, dependable good with kids and around the house. It might turn a few heads, but that's not her main feature.
The deciding factor should be, do you need the awd and backseat at all? Do you plan on putting a lot of miles on it. Yes-yes=TTS. Yes-no=TTS. No-yes=TTS. No-no=458.

That's a tough comparison because there's about a 150K difference in cars! I love the Porsche and is a car that's realistic for me to own. Ferrari..........not so much. If you can afford the 458 that would be my pic. The sound alone with that top off should seal the deal.

In terms of $ value, the 991 TTS vert wins, but damn, supermodel vs. girlfriend......love that comparison!
Cheers,
458 Spider. It is on a higher level of 'super' car. It's currently my favorite to drive, at least until the Aventador arrives.

I'd take a 12C just because I'm an engineering nerd and I think their tech is cool.
Ferrari's are great but owning one is quite another animal. Everything about owning a Ferrari has a number downsides.
1. Friends and Colleagues will think you won the lottery and will give you crap all the time
2. Insuring a Ferrari is not easy. Maybe 2-3 companies will do it
3. You will stare at. Mostly not nice stares
4. High up keep costs
5. Dealerships can be ******
6. But even all that you are driving a car most people fantasize about and the sound of a Ferrari V8 is worth dealing with the first 5 items.
That said I think overall your life will be less complicated buying a TTS. Plus it is much faster than a 458 all day for over $100K+ less. You won't have to wonder if 99% of the cars on the road will beat you in a 0-60 burst or for that matter any A to B acceleration.
GL with you choice.

Most seem happy to see one lots of thumbs up.
Not hard to insure with a clean record.
$900 a year annual maintenance.
My dealer is a friend.
Funny how people are willing to comment on something they know nothing about.
Yip
The 7 yr maintenance program is attractive vs. the 3 yr Porsche program. I've always enjoyed how the Porsches seem to blend in with the crowd while the 458 seeks attention and receives plenty. Found a dealer with a Spider, may get a chance to drive her this week. Surprised to hear that once an order is placed for a Spider, its delivered within 3 months - I thought that it was going to be a year at least.......

It will be a year wait again, as Ferrari is cutting down on production numbers to keep values up.
I think the 458 will hold its value due to the fact that pretty soon normal aspirated V8 engines will be a thing of the past.
There's no comparasion between the two cars as long as it's not going to be a daily driver. 458 Ferrari is a Super car, the Turbo is the best "super daily driver".
