Driving it home in the snow
Driving it home in the snow
So Friday will probably be the big day. Bringing home the new 2015 TTS from the dealership. I live in burbs of Boston, so any issues I need to think about when I drive it home? Like should I lower the tire pressure? etc. There is lots of snow on the ground, but so far the roads look kind of ok. I will put the new sta-bil 360 in it and one it's home put it away for a couple of months.
None other than taking it easy. The tires will be hard as stones in temps under 40 degrees so don't be a hot dog(but you already knew that). I am from Boston myself but living in Dallas due to a transfer for now. You guys got blasted up there over the past two weeks. I have seen he pics from family. Even here when the ground is cold and tires are as well traction is an issue due to the power.
Thx guys, yeah was an easy winter until about 10 days ago. We got hit with 32 inches of snow then a week later another 14 inches.
It supposed to be 16 f as a high on Friday. Yeah early spring for sure. Soon we'll be in Florida is the plan.

That's a good one, though don't need to take air out of the tires the Lombardi trophy will weigh it down...
I would not drive it home with the OEM summers on -- no traction in this cold weather. Flatbed it home.
I DD mine in this harsh winter. My TTS wears Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 winter tires and a full XPEL Ultimate clear bra.

If it is not snowing and the roads are clear, you should be fine. If there is any snow left tomorrow on secondary roads, you'll need to be careful with stopping distances.

I would have it flatbedded also. Just put Pirelli snows on mine. No problems other than ground clearance if you are driving in accumulated snow. My dealer also offered to have my Porsche flat bedded, but did not have to as the weather was OK.
If you drive below 40 degrees with the factory summer performance tires, it is risky. The tires have to warm up and with the low temps we are having, snows are the only option.
Good luck with the car!

If you plan on storing it once home, don't bother deflating the stock tires. It won't do any good. Watch for holes in the cold, and don't even think about trying it at all unless the roads are dry and clear. Give yourself a LOT of room to stop. Get it home and park it unless you plan to buy snows or all seasons for it. Good luck.

Not sure how far you will have to drive..

but if it is more than a few miles I would just flatbed it home. Friday will be sunny, but n the 20's so summer tires will be very slippery even on dry surfaces. The other big concern, unless you had protective film applied at the dealership, is stone chips even on a short, low speed drive. I use my TTS in the winter when the roads are clear, which is not the case now or likely for another month until the sand and salt wash away so fitted it with a set of TTS wheels and factory mounted Sotto Zeros in Nov.
I drove my '13 C4S last year from the financial district to the burbs - west of the city .. had NO issue in 6 inches of snow with the factory tires .. the biggest issues I had was snowplowing (the snow was higher than the front of the car) and taking turns .. it did like to slide. The conditions in beantown area are much better than what I drove through. Good luck!
Don't do it!
For the $ you spend on that car. Don't drive it home in winter conditions.
First of all the first drive in your new car will be anxiety provoking, & you'll give yourself serious stress. Any incline & the car will slide & stopping will be unpredictable. Also someone else with crap tires & poor driving skills may run into you. Once the car is hit, up goes your insurance & the car will have immediately compromised value. I've seen these cars slide down driveways with no one in them! You won't be able to go up a small hill from a stop or stop going down a small hill. I've driven my Porsche's in Canada in various conditions & the most unnerving is when the first snowfall hits & you still have summers on & you happen to be away from home. Flatbed the car home to safety!
