That being said i was wondering if u had the same set up prior to the InterCoolers..? Down here in SFla 100 octane isn't close to me sadly as i had it within minutes of me in Michigan. 100 octane was my normal fill. That being said if you had a similar set up prior to the intercoolers how would u say the power feels on 93 octane with the IC's, plenum, EP, and giac stage 2+ in comparison to prior no IC's on RACE FUEL? While i love the numbers everyone posts, I do not track my car, nor run it to the point of heat sinking however down here in S Fla it can get quite hot....Appreciate the feedback while i consider how to move forward on my "new" currently stock car. Me and a few other local boys here in the S Fla area are waiting on my move to see how they want to move forward on their cars..Being Champion is close to me-10 minutes away- it makes them the easy choice and Tom as well as Austin have been wonderful to deal with in the past. I have also spoke with Sam who was wonderful as well. Oddly enough i don't hear or read much of EVO anymore...my 996 was a stage 4gt with Todd and he couldn't have been more customer service orientated in the past. appreciate any and all real world feedback...
My set up prior to bringing the car down to Champion for the new mods was GIAC Stage 2, IPD plenum and Europipe. It had the race gas tune file as well.

Now it will have GIAC Stage 2 plus, IPD plenum and Tubi catless race exhaust. I will not have had a chance to drive it with Europipe and these mods because I switched out the EP for the Tubi catless race exhaust. I have not driven my car with these new mods as it is currently in transit from Florida to NYC.

I have nothing but great things to say about Champion Motorsports and Tom.

my set up was exactly as you had on yours prior to intercoolers..id be pretty interested in your impressions of the old on race vs the new on 93. even with the different exhaust

I had the Tubi race exhaust on my first 991 TTS and I didn't like the sound driving, the popping was like listening to the same song over and over again and i get that its a result of the stock programming or the car and not so much that of the exhaust, and the slight smell of gas it had. I switched that out to the EP and all i remember from my thoughts RE: that exhaust was it was PERFECT for what i was looking for from an Exhaust. Just a real world subjective opinion owning both.

Was about to turn out for the night but had a thought before i dozed off...I remember sitting in a 991 TT at Champion and starting it up and it had the race tubi on it and i remember thinking how perfect and necessary it was to the car over the stock.. When i got my 991 TTS it was a no brainer to get it however when DRIVING it esp in Sport Plus is my experience above.. That being said while i mostly drive in sport when i drive in Manual mode i switch to Sport plus for the more aggressive curve of the mapping. It was only upon driving the car i was personally unhappy with the Tubi. I don't remember any droning.

I usually reserve sport plus for events or if I want to pass In a hurry. Am in normal most of the time and sport during driving meets. The rifle shot backfiring/popping with the catless seems to occur only in sport and sport plus. I loved my Europipe. Just taking off for now to get some more power especially up higher in the rev range

Jeff Kay, the only place to get 100 oct is Sunoco at 45th and Austrialian in Palm S. FL. .that is N. of PBI airport off I 95.

Ok, I ran my TTs this weekend at PBIR road course. The new champion IC are definitely make more power. New Z06s back straight use to pull away from me now I am even.
I have a friend with SLS Black tuned to 680hp, before he would catch up to me on the back straight, now i can pass him exiting the turn and he can not catch up.
Going to Sebring next weekend and run on Trofroe Rs!

Great to hear Karl. I don't know anyone who tracks their 991 Turbo S is much as you do. Appreciate the real world reports. Sounds like it is making a lot more power in the upper part of the rev range which is where my car before it's new mods fell down flat. At Racewars yesterday at Pocono international Speedway another GIAC stage 2 owner with stock intercoolers reported the same thing I saw at the higher rpm's in terms of decreased power--rapid acceleration out of the hole but a definite Marked slowdown in the acceleration right after about 90.can't wait to get my car back already on Tuesday

I wonder how much power in the upper RPM range u are speaking of is due to the intercoolers, more aggressive tune added to support the intercoolers, or the race fuel.. or just the more free flowing pipes......independently..

These Dyno graphs were all on 93 octane.

The intercoolers do not add power. They allow for a much more aggressive tune due to dramatically better cooling.

The three Dyno graphs we have posted show the effects of the catless exhaust. You will see the middle line is with these mods but with the europipe which has 100 cell cats. The top line, which shows the most power, is with the same set of mods but with no cats -- the Tubi catless race exhaust. Accordingly you can isolate the effect of lack of cats on the power. With the catless exhaust they are able to tune up the tune even more because they are no longer concerned about high exhaust gas temps frying the cats.

Are you saying its a different tune (file) for a car equipped exactly the same but with a 100 cell race cat or no cats at all? 2 different stage 2+ files?
sorry for the confusion in advance

I will defer to Tom from Champion but that is what my understanding was.

Generally no, we would use the same tune. But in SDG's case, all of his tuning was custom for the hardware, so yes.

So for SDG you did a custom tune for the catless tubi?? as it seems their is nothing special about his bolt ons....plenum, ic's, filter....no y pipe, no headers, ....curious what hardware is custom to his car....i'd like to get in on THAT!

We tested headers, and then took them off. Yes, we did a tune specifically for the cat-less Tubi on his car. Yes, he has bolt-ons that are available to anyone, but for each stage of the upgrade, we strapped his car onto the dyno and tested and tweaked the software to his car specifically. Every car is slightly different believe it or not. Is his tune dramatically different from what anyone else would get? Probably not. But the software is 100% tested and proven on his individual car and "custom" in that sense.

I expect to be adding the Champion Y pipe once it is out.

Hi Scott,

Congats with your new upgrades and thanks for sharing all the info on the forum.

It strikes me that your car lost 50hp on a Mustang dyno at the third pull while it performed flawlessly on a Dynojet dyno on 5 back to back runs. (with the exact same mods) On the Mustang dyno it pulled ignition advance timing and dumped fuel to save the engine.

You had the same powerloss issues on the track so you can't really blame the Mustang dyno. So your tune was way too aggressive or have you found another cause for the safety mode problem?

Thanks Stef! Yes the Dyno results show big gains both with your Euroipe exhaust with high flow cats (550 bhp and 559 lbs ft) or with catless exhaust (566 bhp and 577 lbs ft).

I don't blame the Dyno for the heat soak power loss. I never have blamed the Dyno for that. I blame the lack of adequate intercooling. The stock intercoolers don't seem to have enough intercooling to handle back to back runs at events at least if you are running a high power tune.

You are right in that this significant power loss happened to me in every speed event I did -- in particular as summarized in my prior posts, it happened to me at:

(1) the driving force club runway event in May my speedo show a loss of about 6 mph in trap speed);

(2) the Albuquerque dragway event during goldrush rally seven in June (ETs rose by a half second and trap speeds fell by a number I don't remember); and

(3) Slipstream Racing Event's roll out to reach out roll races in July at Pocono international Speedway (trap speeds fell 6 mph).

In fact GIAC admitted in another forum that The stage 2 tune with stock intercoolers does "aggressively" (it's words not mine) reduce power at higher rpm's to protect intake air temperature from getting too hot and damaging the turbos (which is actually a good thing because the last thing you want a tuner to do is remove the safety protections that keep the engine/turbos from blowing apart under temperatures they cannot handle). That restriction is supposed to be gone with the GIAC Stage 2 plus with upgraded Champion intercoolers.

I get the car back today and I'm doing two speed events in early October -- DFC's runaway event on Oct 4 (quarter mile races down a runway without timing) and our Atco private dragstrip day on Oct 7 (which is timed). I will report back on results.
