Video:Porsche 991 CS v Nissan GT-R at track
I came back to this chart ( there are other track comparisons as well) to point out something .In 2008 as compared to now with the 2012 car has made a huge performance jump .
The 2012/13 car IS an improved GTR .
The current matchup pits the same car names .. but they are not the same cars .

True but a lot of those modded cars are no longer really suitable as daily drivers now. The Turbo S/GTR 2013 are untouched, so should be far more comfortable to use on a regular basis...still super fast and capable.
No question. Car looks much the same inside and outside though....there's one big problem right there for me. You'd only hope it rode and shifted better at low speeds....supposed to on all accounts to date. I dunno.... I still can't get over the throw-outs you'd have to deal with and get through to if anything broke. You've heard the saying you can take the person out of the ......... but you can't take the ......... out of the person?. I don't know if it's a road i'd want to really go down at this stage in my life. I've been trying to work my way toward not having to put up with crap like this. Why don't they have a car for you to test drive? Not very confidence inspiring being told if you want one then buy it sight unseen. It's like your starting off over the barrel. No wonder they wind up poking waivers under your nose to sign.
I like the looks of the car . I also feel the interior is quite improved . The black edition looks very nice .
Dealership 1 did not have a car. They were very decent though and encouraged me to come in and order one . Since i never drove one I was hoping to do so.
So --
Dealership 2 did have one --but has lost the sale .
2013 is a long time though and GTR cars aren't going anywhere . There are many other dealerships .
It's not like I am suffering if a car deal doesn't fly .
I have a GTR and have / had owned several Porsches.
My Opinion. I bought the GTR because I was intrigued about it. It's fast, it's practical, it's cheap performance
It supposed to be a great DD, but is not.... too stiff too heavy
it supposed to be a great weekend track toy (when I don't want to tow or bring the Porsche), it's not ... doesn't work at the track
So for the price I can't justify as in MY Opinion is not great in any of the important things to me, but I still like the car.
If I had more money laying around I would probably keep it, but a nicer daily like a C63 or a ML63, which could tow and still be a nice daily makes more sense to me.
Again, my preferences, my use, my opinion.

But as a DD, the 911 is still my top pick. I find it plenty comfortable, and of course the performance is great.
The GT-R is extremely stiff, and is right in between my choices.
I never see myself driving the car anymore. The GT3RS is smoother, and 10 times more engaging to drive. I drove to work and back a few times this week, (90miles round trip) and love every second in the car. if I want something comfy I drive the ML550, so no place for the GT-R anymore.
My wife likes to drive it once in a while, as she can't drive stick (and I'm not teaching
)
For me is just straight line fast, and also the tranny on a 2009 is rough on traffic and parking lot speeds.
It just doesn't make sense to me, but it's my personal opinion.

Interesting. I have a C63, and I feel that the GT-R does just about everything the C63 aims to do, except the GT-R does it better (though the C63 certainly has a more usable back seat). Among cars with a 'sedanish' feel, I don't know of anything that surpasses the GT-R (and actually I'd rank the C63 a bit above the Panamera).

trust me I tried a lot of cars out there.
The things that I look in a car Today
For a daily (not order related)
Quality, room, power, luxury, comfortable.
FUN for me means track:
So there is only one car that works for me, and that's a Porsche, everything else you're fooling yourself. Reliable, really fast if driven properly and the best feel of them all (my personal opinion) Of course that there are faster cars at the track, but with the same feel, and that can take the abuse, that's only Porsche. I say that because my home track is Sebring, and Sebring is just brutal to any machine.
The GT-R didn't last 5 laps there, the Lambo didn't last 3, my previous GT2 lasted 25K miles, and sold the car in perfect, I mean perfect condition.
You won't be able to use what a GT-R can do on the streets, so to have fun I would need to bring it to the track, so that's not an option as it's not up to the task without modding the crap out of the car, and that's something I don't do anymore.
For that I would choose a Cup, which is built for it, so at the end of the day, comes down to personal preference and choices.

Have you driven the 991?
It's certainly another thing to consider. Many cars can pull off one fast lap, but will they last 25 without breaking/overheating/etc? I don't track (yet), but is is comforting knowing how over-engineered my 911 is.... esp b/c the nearest shop is over 4hrs away

trust me I tried a lot of cars out there.

Like yourself I'm not sure either. As unlikely as it would be I've learned to never say never.
Btw on your modded turbo its a toughy to say whether if it would wind up being used as traction in a stock 2013 drag. Just look at the outcomes of stock turbo S's vs some of the heavily modded turbos. Mainly from the get go tho. It sure is fast out of a dig. There is no doubt the new 2013 is a formidable opponent for the 997tt modded or stock. If you can get over the looks and the other issues it'd be the pick performance wise. Drive it if you can. You never know, it may even ride better than your modded car stock.

Im a car enthusiast and Im NOT locked into any particular brands (I've had numerous Mercedes, Lexus & Porsche), yes, the Porsche has a strong racing heritage but Nissan also has some racing experience too (I think, I dont know much about Nissan) but I do enjoy the latest GTR for what it offers. Im open minded and willing to give the competition a try.

I happen to agree with you on some of this but not all.

I've heard the same comment in other forums that Porsche is the most track-ready car out there (in stock form), at least under $200K. I guess decades of racing experience at the highest level do make a difference!
The more I look at it the more I like it. The interior is superb comparing to the older models, it was a big improvement, but I like the old simple raw look.
The older I get, the more I like the older air cooled, but wouldn't give up on my RS, maybe for a cup, or a stripped track only car.
My stock 13GTR will DESTROY my modded 997TT from a dig, my 09TT can hang with my friend's modded 08GT2 3-5 races from a dig, 30-120 or 60-120. The LC on the 13GTR is insane and the car is a completely different machine than its predecessors in about every ways.
The 12/13 is a different animal Larry, I had a 10 and it's much inferior when compares to the 13. I tend to think of myself as a brand ***** sometime but the 13GTR is that much better hence the big price jump over the previous model. I was recently invited to the 2013 GTR Experience by Nissan at Laguna Seca this weekend but I was unable to attend so my friend took my place. He has a 2010 and I cant wait to hear what he has to say about the 13 model. However, here's the thread on nagtroc.com with actual participants sharing their thoughts on the new machine http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index..../page__st__480

Larry, the BE is nicer than the Premium version, it has better seats, lighter wheels (however I prefer the Premium version wheels) and the CF spoiler is sexy. I thought about trading my 13 in for the 13BE but I missed the boat on the white BE my local dealer had. With the recent 2013 GTR Experience offered by Nissan, I think the 13 model will be harder to get because most of the existing owner will dump their cars to get the latest model. Be patient and you'll find the right dealership Larry.

I heard from a lot of people, why are you not racing ?
Simple, I can't afford to race, and my track time, is my fun time, not work.
We have a very nice group of friends, that drives the same cars, so we have our little time battle and a lot of beer !

There are a lot of manufactures out there with amazing racing heritage, but I think from what I can remember, today Porsche is probably the company that has a race car, that is so close to the street one.
It's manufacture's choice to use it and to provide a car that is so track ready. Im sure a lot more could do but they just choose not to.
