Not all of it, but a significant portion of it is due to the weak dollar. It's 30% down since 2007.

Now, the prices of European cars going up and up is harder to blame on the exchange rate.

put a Porsche badge on a bag of walnuts and it will sell for twice the price.
Yeezzz finally someone who's sticking up for the Porsche brand.
I was starting to feel I was on a GTR appreciation thread

The GTR is a unique car to be sure but... I wonder if it would be as civilized as this if 911 owners were to diminish the GTR brand like this in their section...

don`t get me wrong, the GT-R has proved that itīs a very capable machine but outside of the carfanatics world nobody cares about a Nissan,
whether itīs a Micra or a GT-R.
but if you are saying you are driving Porsche, or even a 911 you will get eyes wide open everywhere and thatīs the reason why they can charge so much for their cars. same goes for Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I pre-ordered my GT-R sight unseen when Nissan announced that it was coming out with their 2009 model. I thought that i would keep it for a few months and flip it and make a few bucks. Mine was one of the first ones on the street and early on I could have sold it and make at least $15k on it. After driving it, I changed my mind and decided to keep it. Still have it to this day. It is an amazing car. I kept my 997 too btw. They both are very different cars. Looking at the 991 now...

LOL. In the real world, no one that matters cares if you own a Porsche either, bro.

After reading your post, I have to ask: how many 911's have you owned?

So repeating my question, how many 911's have you owned? Having owned two myself, I can assure you that no one that matters gives a ****.

Segueing to my next question, are you saying that you base your self-esteem on what people think of the brand of car that you drive?

Sorry.
i have owned a 944, a 928S, a 996 (40th anniversary) and a CTT.
currently on an Audi RS4 Avant and old S8, but no doubt on another Porsche soon, but not on any Nissan.

so if nobody in the real world cares, that you got a Porsche in your driveway.
why do you think Porsche can (successfully) charge so much more for a 911TT than a GTR, if not for the prestige of the badge?

One 911. I see. And you believe that your 996 actually impressed people? Or is that you associate yourself only with people who care what brand of car you drive? You do understand that what you are saying implies a great deal of insecurity, right?

Because of badge-enthusiasts like you who actually (and mistakenly) believe that people that matter care whether you own a Porsche or not.

Nissan profited over 6 billion.

Regardless, there is nothing wrong with being proud. Nothing at all. I'm proud of all of the cars that I've owned. But when you say things like the below:

It comes across to me that you are someone who has nothing else going for him other than the badge on his car. I'm not saying that the case, but that's how it seems.

I've been all around the world. The truth is, when it comes down to brass-tacks, no one that matters gives a **** what you drive. They only care who you are. Hopefully, you'll figure that out someday.

That's self contradictory in itself as in saying if anyone "that matters" cares about badge on the car.

If the people that care don't matter, that's no different than a brand snobbery.

At the end of the day, no matter how much money you spent on it, it's a Nissan, not a Lambo. I put 100k into a 2001 C5 I bought for 20k, that doesn't make it anything more than a C5.

If the car looks like a Nissan (not a Lambo), feels like a Nissan (not a Lambo), and gets serviced like a Nissan (not a Lambo), there's nothing wrong with people that say they want more than that. No matter how fast it is.

Everybody badge *****'s something, whether it's not staying at Motel 6, or eating Taco Bell in which both you can get for cheaper, get through faster and get more for your money. Such is the freedom of choice.

There's no need to be offended by it. There's always somebody who can turn a nose up at what you got (as if to get it for themselves). But it's always the lesser value prospect complaining about badge whoring. I badge ***** Mercedes, not because of how much they cost, but because I don't like anything about them. I'll buy a slower BMW all day long and be happy with it. For the similar reasons I don't like anything whatsoever about the GT-R. Not even remotely. But it has nothing to do with how much it costs or the Brand in which it comes from.

I'll clarify and say that people who are so insecure that a badge on a car matters to them, don't matter. That's not the same as badge snobbery at all. It's character snobbery.

At the end of the day, no matter how much money you spent on it, it's a Nissan, not a Lambo. I put 100k into a 2001 C5 I bought for 20k, that doesn't make it anything more than a C5.
Who are you telling this to? Who in this thread is trying to turn a Nissan into a Porsche, or a Porsche into a Nissan?

If the car looks like a Nissan (not a Lambo), feels like a Nissan (not a Lambo), and gets serviced like a Nissan (not a Lambo), there's nothing wrong with people that say they want more than that. No matter how fast it is.
I may actually get a TT Gallardo soon. Not because it's a Lambo, but rather because I really like how they sound and how they put their power down on the street (better than the GT-R on street tires). The only problem is that I think the GT-R is a better car overall, so I'm a bit torn. So I guess your point about "wanting more than that" applies in this case. I want more than what a TT Gallardo can provide, so there's a chance I may end up sticking with the GTR. Good point.

Everybody badge *****'s something, whether it's not staying at Motel 6, or eating Taco Bell in which both you can get for cheaper, get through faster and get more for your money. Such is the freedom of choice.
Badge whoring towards cars like some people do is completely different because it's all about how people perceive you. That, to me, the is ultimate indicator of insecurity, and I consider insecurity a very negative character trait that indicates an extremely weak personality. But that's only my opinion.

There's no need to be offended by it. There's always somebody who can turn a nose up at what you got (as if to get it for themselves). But it's always the lesser value prospect complaining about badge whoring. I badge ***** Mercedes, not because of how much they cost, but because I don't like anything about them. This is a totally different mindset than the earlier poster's. I honestly don't see how you can even compare the two.

For the similar reasons I don't like anything whatsoever about the GT-R. Not even remotely. But it has nothing to do with how much it costs or the Brand in which it comes from.
I can sincerely respect that 100%. The fact that you don't care about which brand it is is hugely telling about who you are as a person. I'm impressed.

look, there are several reasons to buy a car and prestige is one among many other reasons (reliabilty, quality, looks, performance, emotions, usability...).
i care about the badge, cause i am proud to own something that is so well built, engineered and oozes luxury and i am willing to pay extra for that.
most on here do and there is nothing wrong with it, get over it!
why buy a swatch, if you can afford a Rolex?
cause life itīs not just about functionality, itīs also about rewarding oneself.

P.S. if i were a badge *****, i would buy a Ferrari but i would never buy one, cause i think they are not as reliable, well built,
(and often even not as quick) as others.

I would say that caring about what other people think of you based on the badge on your car is something that you should try and get over.

"Reward to oneself". Exactly! That's why I buy what I want, and don't worry about what others think. You, however, seem to feel rewarded by the idea that you are able to impress others with the type of cars that you drive. See the difference?

P.S. if i were a badge *****, i would buy a Ferrari but i would never buy one, cause i think they are not as reliable, well built as others.
Well built? Toyota. But of course a Toyota won't impress the type of people that you are looking to impress, so that's a no-go.
