Video:Porsche 991 CS v Nissan GT-R at track
Not all of it, but a significant portion of it is due to the weak dollar. It's 30% down since 2007.
Now, the prices of European cars going up and up is harder to blame on the exchange rate.

as long as Nissan keeps producing Micras, there is no way they will come anywhere near Porsche`s prestige.
Porsche products are of high quality but letīs be honest itīs mostly the badge that makes Porsche a money making machine.
put a Porsche badge on a bag of walnuts and it will sell for twice the price.

I was starting to feel I was on a GTR appreciation thread

The GTR is a unique car to be sure but... I wonder if it would be as civilized as this if 911 owners were to diminish the GTR brand like this in their section...
Yeezzz finally someone who's sticking up for the Porsche brand.

whether itīs a Micra or a GT-R.
but if you are saying you are driving Porsche, or even a 911 you will get eyes wide open everywhere and thatīs the reason why they can charge so much for their cars. same goes for Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I called my local Nissan dealership today . They do not have even one car .. all are pre sold . I would have to order one . I have never even driven one . My 09 997S just got its one year service this week . I am keeping the Turbo . I have to drive the GTR in order to decide . We'll see !!!!
don`t get me wrong, the GT-R has proved that itīs a very capable machine but outside of the carfanatics world nobody cares about a Nissan,
whether itīs a Micra or a GT-R.

After reading your post, I have to ask: how many 911's have you owned?

i`ll take any bet, even your grandma knows that Porsche= luxury/money/speed, dude!
Segueing to my next question, are you saying that you base your self-esteem on what people think of the brand of car that you drive?

currently on an Audi RS4 Avant and old S8, but no doubt on another Porsche soon, but not on any Nissan.

so if nobody in the real world cares, that you got a Porsche in your driveway.
why do you think Porsche can (successfully) charge so much more for a 911TT than a GTR, if not for the prestige of the badge?

I've been all around the world. The truth is, when it comes down to brass-tacks, no one that matters gives a **** what you drive. They only care who you are. Hopefully, you'll figure that out someday.

If the people that care don't matter, that's no different than a brand snobbery.
At the end of the day, no matter how much money you spent on it, it's a Nissan, not a Lambo. I put 100k into a 2001 C5 I bought for 20k, that doesn't make it anything more than a C5.
If the car looks like a Nissan (not a Lambo), feels like a Nissan (not a Lambo), and gets serviced like a Nissan (not a Lambo), there's nothing wrong with people that say they want more than that. No matter how fast it is.
Everybody badge *****'s something, whether it's not staying at Motel 6, or eating Taco Bell in which both you can get for cheaper, get through faster and get more for your money. Such is the freedom of choice.
There's no need to be offended by it. There's always somebody who can turn a nose up at what you got (as if to get it for themselves). But it's always the lesser value prospect complaining about badge whoring. I badge ***** Mercedes, not because of how much they cost, but because I don't like anything about them. I'll buy a slower BMW all day long and be happy with it. For the similar reasons I don't like anything whatsoever about the GT-R. Not even remotely. But it has nothing to do with how much it costs or the Brand in which it comes from.

look, there are several reasons to buy a car and prestige is one among many other reasons (reliabilty, quality, looks, performance, emotions, usability...).
i care about the badge, cause i am proud to own something that is so well built, engineered and oozes luxury and i am willing to pay extra for that.
most on here do and there is nothing wrong with it, get over it!
why buy a swatch, if you can afford a Rolex?
cause life itīs not just about functionality, itīs also about rewarding oneself.
P.S. if i were a badge *****, i would buy a Ferrari but i would never buy one, cause i think they are not as reliable, well built,
(and often even not as quick) as others.
word!
