These improvements Porsche has made did not decrease the feeling of connectedness or driver involvement as Tiff was commenting on. Yes he did have the MT, which is more involved but its the overall connection during the driving experience. I recently started a thread about driving the 991S and the 997.2S at the porsche driving school. I also drove the new Cayman R and GT3. The 991 felt just as connected as the Cayman R and more so then anything else except for the GT3, of course.
to each his own
another question based on my curiosity - what do u do with 1200+ hp ?

do u track it ? or run 1/2 miles ?
for me, it would be like having a 20 inch *****.. i wouldn't know what to do with it except maybe to show it off.
Agreed that the track is where you can best see the capabilities of the car and driver, but the experience of driving on the track won't necessarily indicate what the experience of driving at slower speeds on public roads is like. One could argue that the "real car" is the one you'll experience in the conditions you'll actually be driving in.
On another topic, when trying to decide between maybe getting a 458 or the mclaren, I watched and read many reviews. Tiff and his friend hated the mclaren and many other reviews said the same. But lately a majority of the reviews are saying the opposite and favor the mclaren, so go figure! It gets very confusing. But will try them both out at the track in Vegas along with many other exotics.
those are very good reason for buying a GTR.. amazing performance and very high gains from turbo mods.

My current car doesn't have 1200 HP. It has 1000. On 93 octane. And yes, I track it, as well as accelerate very quickly all the time. The differences between my 1,000 HP car and a 20" ***** is that unlike a 20" *****, no one that sees my car knows that it has 1000 HP....and I can easily use all 1000 HP of my car. I doubt that anyone could use all of a 20" inch *****.
They are very strict. The strictest. But like anywhere else, you have to always be aware of your surroundings, choose your stretch carefully, and utilize a quality radar detector and laser jammer.
Great post. Tired of all the childish trash talk on both sides. Having owned various Porsches, I still race one, and just picked up a 2012 GTR, they really are different cars. It's not surprising that both are iconic in their own way, and to each their own. Congrats on your choice, and maybe one day you will own both.

Not sure I agree with a blanket statement like that. I like watches as much as the next guy but not every Rolex keeps it's value.
Stainless sports Rolex watches for sure. Anything gold or two tone - not so much.
It is true that Seiko doesn't have the same cachet as a Rolex but that Spring Drive movement is very cool.
After owning various American pick up trucks and with the increased popularity of some of the japanese trucks, one year I decided to test drive some. The few that I drove seemed okay, although they drove more like cars than trucks, and the bodies and doors seemed thin. I bought a Dodge.
After almost 50 years, I'm impressed Porsche has managed to maintain so much of the feeling that made it great. In my eyes, you just cant beat a german car, or an american truck, but you're welcome to keep trying, and occasionally I might even test drive one.

This saves a lot of time and effort of actually driving the cars and forming an opinion based on my own knowledge/experience. I appreciate the tip!
Let's see if I can play...
After over 20 years (40, if you're really counting), I'm impressed that the Nissan GT-R managed to maintain so much of the performance that made it great. In my eyes, you just can't beat the reliability of a japanese car, but you're welcome to keep trying, and occasionally I might ever test drive one.
I recognize it's not logical. I like blondes. Also not logical. Just a silly preference.
Furthermore, I doubt any of us can run 1:20's at that track in either car. It's just another freudian statistic to measure our *****' by.
