Video:Porsche 991 CS v Nissan GT-R at track
those are very good reason for buying a GTR.. amazing performance and very high gains from turbo mods.
another question based on my curiosity - what do u do with 1200+ hp ?
do u track it ? or run 1/2 miles ?
for me, it would be like having a 20 inch *****.. i wouldn't know what to do with it except maybe to show it off.

That's perfectly logical. It's your preference. What isn't logical is making blanket statements when you haven't even driven what you're criticizing (or at least subordinating below something you have).
Test drove the 991 during launch with the intension of taking one home. I think it's so refined that I decided to pass on it and wait for the new GT3/RS.
Similar to what Chris Harris said in his initial assessment. 991 has a very compliant and composed ride with GTR's DCT dropped in...errr...PDK.
They are both great cars, to each his/her own and if you can't decide, then buy both...
But I sure get a lot more thumbs-ups when driving the GTR than the 3. However, I would buy a new GT3/RS before buying another GTR. Like my kid said, there just seem to be more people that are more passionate about your GTR than you.

.....maybe there should be a soul-o -meter between these two
.So BW/Manifold going by the clip and the words, the new car hasn't lost any excitement it would appear. That must be dissapointing for you guys

.Btw a race between a 2012 GTR and 991S is pretty stupid and I have to agree with Jasper (again), why they didn't use a PDK is even more stupid. I mean if they were really genuinely serious about putting showmanship aside and achieving the best times possible to compare these two cars then the 991 should have at least had PDK and preferably all the new features on board as well. Then let's all talk about winners, losers and time differences. It all looked like a one horse race to me. GTR had this one in the bag.

Porsche drivers who think GTR is Seiko while they are wearing Rolex need a reality check. Just saying...
And he didn't say the car hasn't lost any excitement compared to the 997, he said he liked driving it more than the GT-R. You're mixing up comparisons.
I disagree, perception of a certain group of porsche drivers, maybe. But definitely not "general". I for one, put the GTR in its own category, not your everyday Nissan by far.

.Actually in terms of market perception I would agree with game3over 100%.
I'd gladly wager you to go and ask 10 random people in the street what their perception is regarding the exclusivity, status and build quality differentiating a Porsche and a Nissan (GTR or otherwise)....or, a Rolex and Seiko.
There is clear general market perception between the quality and exclusivity of these products and to suggest otherwise is absolute nonsense.
The issue of performance is entirely separate and not to be confused with the former. I would agree quality, status and lack of recognition has become a sore point with "certain Nissan owners" that "certain Porsche owners" take advantage of, in the same sense the GTR's performance has become a sore point with certain Porsche owners..but to suggest because the GTR can perform the same or better than the Porsche automatically changes general market perception is wishful thinking to say the least. I'd say the day that ever happens is the day Porsche has a real problem on their hands...and i'm talking specifically the price differential here. It will be a happy day for me if Porsche is forced to drop their prices to compete with Nissans GTR
. But something tells me that won't be happening anytime soon.

Why disappointing? It's just the opinion of one journalist based on driving both cars on the track. Doesn't matter to me if his opinion differs from mine. I've driven the car and know what I think of it. Unlike you, I'm not on a campaign to convince everyone that the car is good or bad.

Manifold, give it a rest.Btw whats the story with the avatar? What does it signify?...just curious..
In a course run with a time of 1:20...IMO three seconds is not that impressive...its actually fairly poor
No carmaker is immune. Back in the day I had a 914-6 and remember 911 guys calling it a VW, even though I was lapping them. Fast track times weren't enough to "earn" equality in their eyes. Perception...
.
Reality check

, it might make more sense for a Veyron or Zonda owner to claim his/her car is a Rolex compared to the Seiko that is GTR. Porsche is Tag Heuer at best, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, I've got three.
What's funny is this false sense of superiority that some Porsche owners have on this board...

Both the GTR and 991 are great cars. I for one, am glad that not EVERYONE wants the 991. I like variety. If everyone drove a Porsche [or insert car here], they just might not be very cool.
