Walked in to discuss a 991 and left with a .....

New 2013 Boxster S .

So for over a year I have wrestled with the 991 because as much as i liked the 991S it was not enough for me to part ways with my EVT700 997 Turbo . I still have not decided about the new Turbo S and will still wait to see it .

Today I walked into the dealership with my M3 title in hand and my girlfriend by my side (who also loves these cars) in the hopes of making a decision on whether to buy a 991S and keep my Turbo. The car in question was my 2011 M3 . The M3 is a great car and a fantastic performance value with a rear seat , trunk, free service , and daily driving appeal . But it's just not a Porsche and it lacks certain Porsche characteristics .

We sat in the 991 and started talking about how our Cayenne offers such variety and alongside the 997 Turbo the two cars compliment the overall driving experience . That's when it dawned on me . Why not look at ALL the Porsche cars . She agreed and we looked at the entire lot . (Panamera , Cayenne, 991 Coupe, Cab , Cayman , Boxster ).

I saw this Boxster and had never driven the new Boxster and had been so impressed with the improvements . I decided to test drive it and i was blown away by how far Porsche has come with this vehicle . Gilfriend lovd it too and we realized that having a pinnacle 911 Turbo and a practical Cayenne is very fullfilling .. but the idea of adding a mid engine roadster made its way into our hearts and garage .

I bought the car on the spot !!
I imagine it wont be on their website for long but while it still is .. this is my new car . Clear side markers go on the car next week. It was dark and raining when i got home so their pics are better than my iphone pics. http://www.thecollectionporschemiami...90532/info.php

Lastly .. The sales manager and salesperson were outstanding . I spent days configuring cars , asking questions , and very unsure if i was going to buy a car yet . All along they were commited to seeing us happy .

I wil write more on the Boxster in that forum including write ups having had multiple 911 cars and this being my first Boxster S .

That is gorgeous. I can't see myself ever paying 85 large for a Boxster, but more power to you for having the stones to pull the trigger.

I did drive a Boxster in the late 90's once (when it first came out) . I liked the car back then but in those days I only had one car so it had to be "the one" and if that was my choice today I am not sure what i might have bought . Back then I bought a 993. The contenders (today) would have been a used Turbo S , a 991s , or because I am older and need a practical vehicle a Cayenne Turbo.

Yet ..since I have several cars my driving choice selection is determined by the overall experience . For example at one time i did have two 997 cars .. a Turbo and a 997.2S . The interior obviously was similar but things like the normally aspirated seamless throttle or the Turbo power posed differences . One was manual and one was PDK . In short .. even two 911 cars offered an experience when combined .

I did research the Boxster and Panamera because I do find all the Porsches interesting . I even drove a panamera when it was launched as well as the 2010 Gt3 (almost bought it).

I will detail a bit of the driving impressions of my first mid engine roadster much like my Cayenne was my first SUV .

I do feel that some type of 991 might be a future purchase but not today .

Wonderful choice. The way a Boxster behaves in the curves has to be experienced. The new Boxster is the best looking car Porsche makes and a summer evening drive top down is about as good as it gets. And you got a manual transmission - terrific!

Very nice! Congratulations!
Regardless of whether one likes the Boxter or not (which btw I like) sometimes its good to go with your instinct and act on impulse. I'm happy that you did.
The car is gorgeous. Enjoy!

Congrats. New Boxster looks great. Wife won't part with her 05 manual Boxster. Porsche cars complement each other if you can afford it. I have two 997s too. Mk2 C4S with PDK and GT3 mk1 for track /weekend fun.
Enjoy your Boxster.

Thumbs up Great choice and let me tell you why...

First, congratulations.

I totally understand and think you made the right call. My weekend car was a 2012 C63AMG Coupe with a Development Package - I traded in my 997 C2S Cab for it because my daughter didn't have enough room in the back. Well guess what, compromise doesn't work so just I ordered a 991 C2S, however, like you daily driver mine is a Cayenne (actually with a manual transmission . Before I got the 997 I had a 987 Base Boxster - it was awesome. Prior to that I had a Honda S2000 and so on. The beautiful thing about about the Boxster is having a perfectly balanced and fully engaging car that does everything you could ask for on the street and more. People get so hung up on this number, and that number, on tracks with this switched off, and that switched off - that they forget to really "feel" what the car is like, and what it can do for you on the street, which is where you're going to drive it 99% of the time. The other thing is that your Boxster was made on the very same line, by the very same people that make the 991 in Zuffenhausen.

The other thing is, and I appreciate the emotion that goes into deciding these things, that while very few people have unlimited resources, our tastes, needs and what we value changes over time. What you're looking for at this particular junction in life, may not be what you want in 3 - 4 years. My point is that, judging by your current stable, this isn't going to be your last car. You're going to enjoy the heck out of it, and if, and when the time comes, you'll try something else. That's the great part of being alive - Carpe Diem!

You also found a car that has everything you could want - 90% of the Boxsters on dealer's lots don't have PASM because dealers are concerned about pushing into base 991 territory, but let's face it; this decision was about you and want personally moved you. You didn't spend a 160K for an 80K car, you spent maybe $5K - $7K over what most are going for, but got it with all the things that are going to enhance your love the car. Enjoy, be happy and safe travels!!!

Funny, because I went to my So. Florida dealer looking to learn more about the Cayman since I have a number of convertibles already and thought it was time for a coupe. Much as I love the Cayman and the Boxster, I ended up with a Carrera S Coupe. It's a better fit for my large frame.

I don't get where other members say stuff like $85K is too much for "just" a Boxster and yet don't think $125K for a Carrera Cabrio is overpriced.

As for buying a car on impulse, I totally understand: love at first sight.

I'm very happy for you and your GF. I hope you both enjoy this car for a long time together!

I'm happy the OP found the car he was looking for. For me though, I was able to drive a new Boxster for a day as a loaner while my 991 was in for the early service campaigns several months ago. I enjoyed it but compared to my 991 cab it simply was underwhelming. I couldn't wait to get back in my car the next day.

My particular 991 Carrera cab 7-speed is the first car I wouldn't trade for something else in a moment of glorious abandon retail glee in a long time. I'm kinda amazed by that.

That is a beautiful car- stunning. But I am partial to white

When we get new cars, it's almost always in pairs. It's not a matter if which is the best car but which ones compliment our needs and wants at the time. The Boxster S is a perfect compliment to your Turbo beast and Cayenne. Especially with the Manual trans. And the options are ideal and would be pretty much how I would order it too. It's not that impulsive if it's what you would have gotten anyway if you custom ordered it. I did the same thing when the black 997.1 Launch car came out- pccbs, full leather. Our dealer got one and I bought it on the spot.
