991 S not starting

Anyone here have an issue where the car would not start after a short drive and being parked for a short time? Had a second occurrence today and now I'm becoming a little leery of taking the car out at all. I presume it's an electrical issue, as the car has restarted both times following a 10-15 minute wait (and much gnashing of teeth).

This has happened to others. I recall a multi page thread on this issue. Good luck with a fix. I would get dealer involved ASAP. Not acceptable.

Yes, a handful of folks here have that issue, I believe it is the camshaft positioning sensor that needs to be replaced. Good luck!

I went through this on three separate occasions...took the car in and the dealer never found it. Didn't matter whether the auto off button was active or not. The only common thread was that each time was after a change in the weather. My service guy tried to convince me that the sensors may be reacting to the barometric change... I was skeptical.ive now been almost 6 mos without an episode. The only observation I made about myself over time was that sometimes I thought I had the clutch all the way depressed when I didn't. I don't know if you have an MT or not.

Tell the dealer the issue is the camshaft positioning sensor. I had the exact same problem (took the car to the dealer 4 freaking times with this problem before they figure this out ). After they replaced it, it always start now.

Good luck

I had my first experience with this problem 3 days ago. Engine was cranking over but never started. Tried 4 times. 15 min later it started right up. Called dealer and they didn't know about it. I don't want to waist a day going to the dealer either. If anyone get a real definite source please share. For now I guess its the camshaft positioning sensor. If it happens again I'll tell the dealer to check it out.

It amazes me that there are evidently no codes thrown for such a serious problem. Seems as though it must be the ONLY engine malfunction not logged by the car's brain.

To reproduce your problem, try driving your car hard (like 4000-7000rpm) for around 10min. Then turn it off for about 20min-30min so that the car goes into sleep mode. After that, you won't be able to start it. THat's what happened with mine.

When it happened it was right after I washed the car. I pulled out the car in the morning. Started no problem. Washed the car. Then pulled it back into the garage. 1 hr later my wife and I got in the car to leave and it wouldn't start. I'll try what your suggesting next time I go for a spirited drive. If I can get it to reproduce every time that would be great. Then the dealer can see it.
