Window tinting issues

Thinking of getting my windows tinted in my 991 C2S coupe.

Do they remove the front and rear windows to install the film?

If so, is that something to be concerned about?

If not, has anyone had any issue with the windows not being clean enough and then having the film placed over the dirt.

I ask this because I have tried repeatedly to get my rear window clean and still, when the sun shines through, I can see marks or smears that I missed.

It is very awkward to get access to the rear window for cleaning.

I am not confident that the installer will have any better luck than me in cleaning that rear window.

I worry that I will look through the rear window and see dirt that is now sealed under the film.

I had my windows tinted on my 997.2- nothing is removed. Don't worry, just use an experienced installer - they know what they are doing and tint tons of windows so they have a formula on how to clean the windows perfectly. I had zero issues with seeing any smears, etc caught under the film.

The installers will take of everything for you. Glass is never removed and any decent tech will set up your tints to your satisfaction, streak free.
Trust them to do their job and make sure to inspect before payment. You should have no issues.

How long does it normally take to tint our cars?

Couple hours or so. I don't remember. You can easily get an estimate from local shops. Just give them a call. May also find a guy who is mobile. My guy was mobile and recommended by my detailer. If you were here I'd give you the number.

I just had my windows tinted two weeks ago with 35% back three windows and Blu 80 on front two windows. They will clean the windows thoroughly, so no need to worry about that. Just find a good shop with excellent reviews and you'll be fine.

Glass shouldn't need to come out. As for cleaning, that's where installer experience comes in. Not getting dust and dirt in the film during install, that's also installer experience. Go with a quality film/installer, and you'll be fine.

Anyone know how the installers deal with the windows lowering when the doors open? Seems like they would have to install the tint from inside with the door closed to prevent the window form lowering. I can't believe they install it that way, so how do they do it?

the installer uses a plastic wedge to put the tint lower than the door panel on the glass with the door open. Its really easy. Watch the installer when you get your car done.

So interior door panel doesn't have to be removed as done in the video in above post?

@gulrey22 If you are up for a road trip to Atlanta I can recommend a good installer who has done 7 cars for me, 3 of them being 911. He also did 2 911 for Serge (SM_ATL). PM me if you want contact information.

No Door Panel removal. Just talk to your installer. I used to own a tint shop and I NEVER pulled off a door panel. This video you posted if just this guys way of doing it. Major overkill.

i got my windows tinted very professionally without removing any panels, just find a good installer and make sure he covers all the leather parts while working as they spray allot of water and soup as lubrication while installing. you can even notice that from the video i posted.
