Disabling 'kickdown button'
Disabling 'kickdown button'
Not sure this is possible, but I would like to disable the kickdown button on my 991 C2S. It is not an issue in DD, especially when you need some quick power for unexpected reasons, but I find it irritating on the track when I want to go WOT and hold the same gear (i.e. like after 5 or between 10b and 11 at Road Atlanta if you are familiar with the track).
I find it weird that the kickdown button stays active when you are in manual mode, especially in Sport Plus. I love PDK, but I would enjoy it better without the kickdown option...
Thanks for chiming in if you found a solution to this for a 991 or another P-car (maybe it can be reprogrammed through PIWIS??).

Heard an interesting lecture by Vic Elford and David Donahue this past weekend. Donahue discussed some of the features of the 991. He summarily dismissed the kick down, the automatic shifting (not requiring heel toe technique) and the Put it in Neutral (by pulling on the paddles) as gimmicky.
Elford regaled us with tales of rallies and races.
Kickdown disabled, I agree.

PDK, disabling automatic upshifting in M mode (disable kickdown switch)
Hi all,
I am racing driver and during the last seven years I have participated in all racetrack events of the Porsche Club of Brazil (and others private track days), always driving Porsches with manual gearbox.
Recently I bought a 997.2 Carrera S PDK to drive in manual mode, but I did not like the PDK system shifiting gears up automatically, especially in the middle of corners, leaving the car without traction.
With a simple change in the accelerador control the car is now improved for track days (only upshifting). I removed the original kickdown switch and installed a fixed hand made part, with exactly the same measures of original piece.
The electronic pedal remains the full throttle, but stops before sending the signal to upshifiting. Now I can control the gearbox to use all 8K rpm of engine, using the paddle shifters steering wheel.
The system is similar the new 991 GT3 PDK-S without kickdown, and can to be installed in any model Porsche PDK.
I hope you enjoy.

I just ordered a GTS with PDK. Hasn't locked yet. I've test driven it for 2 hours roughly, but hadn't realized there was such a feature.
To be clear: You're saying that if I have assumed full manual control of the gearbox, but I go to WOT, PDK takes over control and downshifts? Seriously? How can that be? That essentially means you're right back in Auto mode, no? Where the computer decides what gear it wants you in.
Am I misunderstanding something?

As you quoted the message from SM_ATL, I do not know if I can answer.
Well, the 911 GTS model has the PDK system for street cars. Driving in D mode is an automatic car, but in M mode you can choose the gears, unless it reaches the engine revolution limit.
When it happens because you have accelerated the throttle at the end, the system upshifting to protect the engine, which is not good when using the car on the limit at race tracks and you need the traction of each gear.

Pe.Erre,
Can you explain further?
Does the Kick Down Switch control, upshifting or downshifting?
Is the Kick Down Eliminator something that you can sell?

Sound like he disabled the kickdown button by removing it and replacing with a dummy that is the same dimension that allows full throttle without a unwanted downshift, really a simple solution.
I had no idea the kickdown switch had anything to do with upshifting.
I am engineer and developed this piece to solve a problem: drive with PDK in M mode on circuits. The original system when reaches the rev limit, automatically changes gear up. I noticed that is a world claim about PDK in track days.
Initially I did not think to sell this piece. It takes only two or three minutes to change on accelerator control. I believe that should be used by experienced drivers, who are accustomed with manual gearbox, to prevent the engine exceeds the RPM limit in manual mode.

[QUOTE=991C4s;4293690]This is what I did on my 335 just used double side tape
I thought about that, but the heat is high into the car on a circuit. The 'stop' can lose the glue and the driver does not see.
