Jack or Ramp
#2
I have both, but use ramps a lot as if you just need the back or front up, it seems to be the easiest, as to kind, I built my own using 2x8, I got to make them exactly the way I wanted, I built 4 so I can get the entire car up some if I want, works well for what I am doing. Still trying to convince the wife I need a lift in the garage.

Not sure if it is a good idea for me to post this here...
But since I ran across this:

I might be paranoid, but I am not getting my self under a jacked up car. My apologies in advance to all the DIYers.

I bought a couple of 2"x8" or 2x10s at Home Depot a number of years ago and cut them to three different lengths and nailed them together. You drive up about three levels and Voila! I don't have many concerns that the wood is going to disintegrate. YMMV.

Lifts can be cheaper than you think and even available second hand. Look around. Mine was FREE from a fellow club member who wanted a larger lift. I was lucky. It is a drive-over pad lift, low enough for even my lowered 993 to park over it.

Sorry for the late reply. There is a piston that runs through about half of the middle of the lift. But it's never proven to be of any issue as far as clearance. You can usually work around it pretty easily.
