Who here thinks the Power kit is a ripoff?
Porsche has been getting very stingy about increasing power output and I have harped on this on other threads. I have been brand loyal for 20 years but I think my current 991 will be my last 911. I cannot justify the ever increasing costs with the ever decreasing power increases. There are too many variants of 911. In my opinion there should just be a "911" and a "911 turbo". Who needs a base, S, GTS , etc.. just make the naturally aspirated 911 as good as engineering will allow and we will buy it. Don't hold back the parts like the "power kit" that make the car better. The car should have that stuff standard. I will no longer pay $100k for a 350hp car when I can pay $65k for a 420hp M4 with 400 lbs of torque and a $900 reflash will have that car near 500hp... or maybe a Jaguar F type coupe for $90k and over 500hp.....the much improved Corvette for $60k and 450hp...... Porsche is lagging far behind and the exodus will continue until the ship is righted and they start offering VALUE for the dollar.
I respect Corvettes... and their drivers. Plenty of useless C7 vs 911 threads already.
I have the powerkit on my 997.2 GTS, and like it. Since it was "bundled" with some other goodies on the GTS, I didn't have to pay full price for it. I can tell a difference in the power, and delivery of the power, over a non powerkit 997.2S, but not sure I would put up the cash for it if I had to pay full MSRP for the option.
Porsche does need to step it up with the power of their engines, but I guess as long as we pay the premium for what they offer us, they will continue to laugh all the way to the bank.

I am in process of buying a 911 C4S. I also have an issue with driving a Chevy. I am just willing to admit that I don't like the brand and the looks of the car, not that I think it delivers inferior performance. It is also important to me that I drive a car that looks expensive which is why I don't want either a BMW M4 or a Corvette.
Also if you think it should be illegal to say another brand delivers more performance for the dollar, then what you are saying is you don't want anyone competing for share with Porsche. You'd rather they are free to charge whatever they want. To me we all benefit when someone competes with Porsche and the more we recognize the competition the more it influences product pricing in our favor.

And perhaps an infinity GTR
I wasn't trolling. Commenting on snob appeal does not make one a troll.

One of the greatest things about the 911 is that it can be had almost countless ways at various price points. Some people want leather this, contrast stitch that--65 way seats with a/c seats & indoor misters--sport exhaust, spasm, X51, PTS, etc.
The point is, this car can be made to fit whatever the driver wants and I think that's what makes it so profitable and desirable. Most of us had to prioritize what was most important to us when ordering the car. Yes, I would have loved to have the extra HP of X51, but it wasn't that important to me. Porsche does incur some costs to add the X51, so I'm glad it's an option that I can decide to pay for or not. If all 911S came with X51, they'd all be more $ to start with and that would alienate some buyers, that's why Porsche does what they do. Believe me, they get it
How often do you see a car exactly like yours? Probably never for most of us.
How many other luxury goods can claim the same?
Most other cars have packages and colors and you can get confused in the mall parking lot.
Porsches can be custom and unique very easily. I know I will probably never park next to an exact match of my car! And if it ever happens, I'll make a trip to the dealership to order a new one

The point is that GM is trying to create more appeal for the Chevy brand by having them selling the Corvette (like BlackSpeed wrote while I was typing this: it is their flagship car). They are using a few gimmicks to make a Corvette, a Camaro... and a Malibu look like they are part of the same family. I would be interested to know the margin GM makes on the C7: it is better built than before, has more technology and comes rather fully loaded while remaining very affordable. They could charge more for it (dealers do...) but it may be part of a marketing investment.

May have gone over the top there, but yeah - I wouldn't want to be seen driving a mustang even if it had a 1000hp. To me the package is about:
1) Performance
2) Luxury
3) Fit and finish - things like leather dash and doors, not just seats.
4) Overall premium appearance
5) Best available technology
