ParkAssist Slow? Anyone else?

Seem to be having some issues with the park assist function of the vehicle. Does anyone else notice that the system is slow and lags? Meaning the audible and visual warnings are a step behind where the vehicle physically is? Happened a second time today when parallel parking, i end up hitting the bumper of the car behind before the park assist system gives a red or steady audible alert.

Can the system be programed to be more sensitive? Feels like the sensors are picking up the objects but the computer processor is too slow to process the signal and give the appropriate alerts.

thanks

I give mine quite a workout as I maneuver backing into a tight garage every day and the system has worked well for me. No delays.

If you are pulling into your garage, slowly, it can be a help. But, pulling into a parking space and giving you a warning about the cement barrier that is about to crush the lower lip of your splitter, it sucks. It is sure to let you know, after you hear that crunch.

Yep, mine is on the slow side too ! Good when reversing very slowly into a tight spot. Useless when you are parking somewhat at regular speed in a bigger spot.

I've never had an issue but read the warnings on the Forums back when 991 introduced with this feature that you had to be going very slow.

Slow? You mean I can't use them to avoid the cones at the next auto cross?

No good for Auto-X except to tell you that you've just run over a cone and probably caused a paint scratch on your fender or bumper.

Mine is not slow but in the shop again because it goes on for no reason. PCM was replaced but that did not fix it. Might be a sensor issue.

It is a very useful feature but can be completely relied upon to judge distances.

Which dealer did you use? I bought mine at Jack Daniels. I liked the buying experience. The service has been only Ok.

I haven't tested it but can the parking assist detect something as low as a concrete barrier? I know it works great for detecting cars and walls but I never have issue with those. I'm always paranoid about messing up my front spoiler though.

The sensors do not detect the normal sized concrete barrier at either front or rear on my '13

I have had them catch a tall curb a couple of times in my '14 but I tend to stop short on my own.

Actually mine is able to catch curbs or concrete car stops on my '13 c4s.. Perhaps it's PDCC + spasm and normal bumper (not sd kit) with lowest ground clearance that helps??

Seem the expectations on what park assist does is different among individuals. I would never expect it to catch low curbs and things you might scrape on in the front. And I'd never blast into a parking spot at normal speed and assume assist was going to help me.. Maybe on some car types it might work ok...

My expectation is detects things like other cars, large objects and walls etc.. I'm not sure I'd even expect it to find a thin pole if it was just in the right place.. Probably if you are lucky enough to detect a low curb in front you would need to be almost on top of it.. So yeah it would seem slow to respond..

I've also heard complaints it didn't detect people or animals in the rear... Again I'm not sure I would expect that either... Maybe if you are lucky... I don't see it getting all that much better without placing a whole array of sensors which of course we all hate the looks of...

What is really needed is backup and fwd cams.. To me that works best of everything.. The park assist is just a help when guiding in very slowly... Maybe parallel parking or in some of the ridiculously small car parks in Europe..

Hopefully a factory option for cams will be available soon.. Currently investigating aftermarket solutions myself of which there are several I've seen in other threads..
