Headlight options ?
Headlight options ?
When I ordered my car I saw a box for hid lights and checked it. I didn't want to drive a Porsche and have regular brown incandescent headlights and technology from 50 years ago. As much as I want to be a purist I just feel that a car with a 100k price tag needs to have certain things or you should drive something else. Of course the option comes with pdls but that wasn't a necessity to me. I recently saw my friends 991 with no headlight option checked and it seems as though his headlights are hid? The bulbs are almost the same temperature as the led drls... Did I just pay that money for a black light housing and some pdls or is there something different that I'm missing? Are hid's standard on the 991? What bulbs are used? My car is locked in production now so nothing I can do but get a better understanding now.. Thanks
As stated above, the base 991 comes standard with Bi-Xenon headlights w/ auto leveling.
But if you want PDLS (includes the cornering lights and cleaning system), then you need to select either the Premium Package or the Premium Package Plus.
You can also skip the packages if you opt for the Black headlights with PDLS or the LED Headlights with PDLS+.
It annoys me that you cannot select PDLS as a stand-alone option.

Here's a video I recorded on my previous 991 that shows how much the headlights actually move with PDLS.

Did you opt for the Bi-Xenon Headlights in Black w/ PDLS? If yes, then you are paying for 'blacked out' headlights along with the PDLS. It will look like the pictures in this thread:

The standard Bi-Xenons (without PDLS) will have a chrome-looking headlight housing.
The Bi-Xenons with PDLS will have a dark grey/charcoal headlight housing. This is what most 991's come equipped with.
I believe that the LED's with PDLS+ also have a dark grey/charcoal headlight housing.
I got premium package plus also. Will the headlight washers be chrome though? That would be a bummer since I have nice black headlights on and black car they will probably stick out like a sore thumb.
Since you build is locked, don't worry about them. If you really hate them you can have them painted later, it's not that big of a deal.. Still trying to decide if I'm going to do mine.. Although I'd like to plug the damn things because as I mentioned, occasionally I activate and they mess up the car..
I considered the black headlight option but to me it wasn't worth the cost for what amounts to smoked glass.. The LED however I wish I'd paid extra for..
+1, headlight washers should only be used if your car is otherwise filthy anyway. The washers spritz the entire hood, front of the car, roof, etc.
I think you'll like PDLS, the cornering feature comes in handy, especially on poorly lit roads.

at this point the all black look may be cool, i probably would have ratherd another performance option over pdls but whatever, im more annoyed now that the washers are chrome and not black but maybe i will just plasti-dip them
I went to a few dealerships over the last year not one of the sales guys told me that the stock headlights were hid's. I was even shocked when i saw it an option multiple times asking them how could a 911 porsche in this day and age have regular bulbs in it... most acuras have hid's now standard. Porsche overloads the optional equipment i feel only the really good sales guys, guys that are like us and care about this stuff know what they are talking about and thats 5% maybe
how many sales guys do you have to ask to find out if the base 991 had LSD, i asked 5 guys nobody knew and a few of them didnt know what it was and i didnt abreviate.. the only way i could figure it all out was going on this forum. terrible.

It is sad that many salespeople don't know the first thing about the cars they sell. I suspect this matters much less for the sale of basic Cayennes and Panameras, as the buyers may not be enthusiasts. But for a 911 customer, you have to get lucky and find a salesperson who is a true enthusiast and knows the car inside and out. I got lucky and found such a dealer at Paul Miller Porsche (Norman Mandell), but there are many in that dealership and others who have no clue about the product they're selling.
