In the last 3 months or so you have asked this same question in the Turbo forum , the Cayman forum , and the GT3 forum (threads below) . This particular post adds a new twist of suggesting an outrageously high spec base car . 122K for a base 991 takes a lot of work to even configure .

Now either these posts reveal a genuine but perhaps confused Porsche shopper or some need to waste anyones time (who really gives thought to answering ) . The range of cars listed (from a Vantage to a Gt3 to a cayman to a Turbo S ) is endless . None of them are bad . All of them are expensive to some degree.

Have you even driven any of them ?

+1,000,000 to all of this except the daily driver part. I've used two 911 as daily drivers for a total of about 5-6 years and loved every minute of it. I currently use my Turbo as a DD even with two little kids.

You mentioned that the Boxster S felt like it had plenty of power, and that a base 911 should be similarly fast, so that means you haven't driven one. Are you really going to spend that much money on a car that you've never driven?

That being said, it's obvious you haven't owned a fast car before, so maybe a base 911 will be just fine for you. Nobody knows that except you.....

My '12 C2S was optioned very similarly. No LED lights - not available. Dials were all black and no PSE. But I did get PDK, PDCC, SPASM, and a lot of the other items you are thinking of and it was $127K (1% discount - early adopter tax!) Given the money, and the discounts now available, an S makes much more sense to me, and with a few options removed, you are in the price range you wanted.

The C2 is great machine and it is a fine DD - they both C2 and C2S are. The S is beefier and feels a bit different, but it is not that much faster or quicker. And, as I learned from so many others on this site, how you drive and how hard you like to push probably makes more difference than the engine in many situations.

As for using it as a DD - I am sure you could. But in Md, I am not sure I would have it as my only car in the winter (mine has only been out of the barn 3 times since December). It is not just the snow and ice and the pain of changing over the tires/wheels. It is the pot holes, the grit, the salt and all of those others on the road who have no idea how to drive in weather (I was born and lived in DC where even a prediction of a 1/4" dusting meant that you could not find a loaf of bread or a role of TP on a store shelf for 100 miles).

MichaelS had the best idea for budget - get a gently used one, preferably a CPO. But if you want it new, and optioned as you want it - and I fully understand that want - get whatever is not going to make you say "I should have bought....".

Nice! I'm thinking about getting a 918, but I'm holding out for a manual.

I drove the vantage S. And while I liked it, not for 150k. GT3 at the time at my dealer for me to get below sticker I had to wait 2 years cuz of how many orders they had and I won't pay MSRP for a car. Sorry won't do it. Turbo with my options I just decided is too much for me right now and I don't want to stress myself. While that would be the easiest way to go. Through this process I got really irritated and thought instead of going with excess in price and performance how about a little less. Relative of mine got a boxster S new one and that is what brought on that thinking because I was so impressed with it. So that is why I considered the GTS model.

And there was the fun fact it would be under 100k so not pushing it financially at all for me. But then now more recently I thought why not revisit the 911 again since that really is what porsche is known for. So I listed my configuration for a 911 C2 to get to 122k and I really didn't add much past all performance options minus PCCB. Porsche options are just expensive plain and simple.

Everyone pretty much said that is a stupid build money wise and that a C2S would be better. So even if it is 10k more it goes a long way for resale down the road.

And the only 911 i have driven was a new C4S. Haven't driven a turbo or GT3. Dealer isn't getting a GT3 for stock. They said they would let me drive a turbo when it comes.

So to answer your question I am new to the world of porsche and I am trying to learn the do's and don't s so to speak so I am a very confused genuine porsche shopper. And this thread with the exception of unproductive comments like this is providing me a lot of great information that I am sure others could use as well.

I'm thinking of getting either the Mclaren P1 or the Koenigsegg Agera R. Can you guys help me decide? . Is the Agera worth the price premium?

I read the other threads yyralis1. Interesting !

What about your 700hp car OP? Will the 3.4 Carrera give you enough power?

I drove a C4S not a regular C2. I DDed a 2012 ZR1 up till a couple months ago when I sold it. I tracked it as well a few times at VIR. I have a little knowledge of owning fast cars. I just don't need the power. I rarely used it. On the street 400 fully used with the right chassis and suspension is worth it. I don't want another fast car with nothing else to come with it.

Good catch yrralis1!! I read the other threads; Cross shopping a Turbo , Vantage S, Cayman Gts, and now 3.4 Carrera ?? Interesting ! What about your 700hp car OP? Will the 3.4 Carrera give you enough power?
Koenigsegg obviously.

But in all seriousness now. I will go drive the C2S and C2 and wait maybe 6 months-8 months max if a good CPOed car comes out for either. If they don't then I will just get the C2S since that seems to be the preference of the majority.

Though the p1 is pretty nice too. I rather have a 599 GTO and carerra GT together before that. I wonder if anyone will switch to the new mclaren rather than buy turbos on here. Since its starting at 160k.
