Multifunction Display Issue
Multifunction Display Issue
Noticed my my multifunction display dial is blank at start up intermittently. Usually it says Carrera and there is a car graphic that goes into a setting. However sometimes it is blank and it takes about 1-2 minutes to turn on. The other dials are fine.
Anyone else have this issue or heard of it?

Have not seen this on mine.. It is usually on right away..
Except when PCM reboots (spontaneously which seems to be occurring more frequently, although seems related to jukebox mostly)
During PCM reboots, certain MFD functions are of course gone until it comes back. But the basic display and non PCM functions are usually there immediately at turn on..

Multifunction Display Failed
Bought a 2012.5 991 Carrera S Cabriolet with 8k miles CPO. I noticed the MFD would not come on once in a while... then eventually by around 11k miles it was happening more often. Symptom was simply not coming on upon starting the car... black screen.. and no way to manually turn it on. With the engine running and the display failed (black)... I tried using all input methods to "wake" it up... multifunction selector dial... pressing the same dial.. nothing worked. It would eventually come on after waiting/driving for about 5+ minutes and would work normally. Took it into the dealer, they duplicated the issue.. tried a re-flash... couldn't even get proper communication to the MFD in order to reflash. Dealer declared it broken and they had to order a whole new cluster set.. fortunately CPO so no charge.

Trending Topics
Went to the dealer and had the display update done, hopefully it will work. When they pulled up my record, there were two more open campaigns: one for exhaust hose flap hoses (never heard of such a thing) and one for the suspension. I can't find any info on that one...anyone know about it. Service guy seemed a little clueless.
Can't believe they wait for you to come in for these campaigns. BMW sends letters and asks you to come in for issues like these. IMHO this is lousy customer service.

I could not agree more. Not pro-active at all. Very disappointing.
