Macan is a Q3?

As talking to a buddy who works at Rockville Audi Porsche and he told me the Macan is more based on the Q3 than the Q5. Is this true? I was interested in the Macan S for a new family car but for some reason I am now thinking twice. Still a gorgeous suv but I thought it was more based off the Q5.

Im not sure hes correct saying something like that i think the macan is total new development from the ground up. I had my S now for 3 weeks and almost like driving it more than my 991s. You can really drive this thing like a sports car.

Everywhere I've read states that the Macan shares the same platform as the Q5 (VW's MLB architecture to be exact) but with extensive modifications... powertrain, interior, exterior, suspension, etc. The Q3 is built on the VW MQB platform.

So the answer is no, your guy is incorrect.

I think this is correct. I am not sure the Q3 was even out when the Macan was introduced.

Based on the Q5 but there is very little that the Macan shares with Audi, suspension, motor, tranny and body/ interior is all Porsche. I have had the turbo for about 6 months and really enjoy it, not as much as my 911 but it is very nice and fast...

It is definitely shared parts with the Q5. I'm told about 30% of the Macan is Q5 parts so to speak.

Macan is based on the Q5 . It's the most versatile car I have ever owned . The previous SUV was a cayenne and the Macan does have ample seating space . Do make sure to get things like the 3 zone climate and if you decide to spec a Macan S the option list is enormous . We have almost 15K miles on our Turbo which makes it the most driven vehicle in my home .

In terms of space compared to a cayenne I feel the trunk and rear seats are not hugely different . The driver and passenger seats are noticeably tighter than a cayenne but compared to a Boxster or 991 a macan cabin is very spacious .

We love the car !!

Like others have echoed - Macan and Q5 share the same base platform
