After owning a P4S, a 991 C4, a 981 Boxster S, and now a 991 GTS and Cayenne S e-hybrid, I am thoroughly convinced that Porsche takes its brand seriously and that the 991.2 will be an able contender. That said, however, when I asked my salesman about the '16 991 he responded that he was worried about the turbo. Like everything else, though, I am optimistic that Porsche got it right.

I'm sure the .2 will be a success, but being the dinosaur that I am, I'll keep my .1. The wail of a high revving NA engine stirs my soul. I've thrice tried to go Turbo, and I've always come back. I wish supercharging was still a popular option. My E55 AMG had the sound, and the power.

The .2 will be faster and better in every quantifiable way. First Gen new engines rarely are without fault. The Nissan GTR is a car full of electronic witchcraft and the .2 is a step in that direction since the 3.8 takes some work to execute. The .2 will be a lot easier to drive fast.

I'll likely upgrade to a GTS at some point but not a 3.0tt. Also the 3.0tt limits the specialness of the S since it's a tune away from the same power.

This is huge right here. Now 991.2 carrera owners will be able to get huge power out of their cars from tunes/cats/upgrading turbos

A carrera S does not need more power. This changes the car.

It may not need it, but I would be willing to bet we start seeing some tuning solutions and possibly turbo upgrades shortly.

absolutely - new types of buyers will be attracted. The same demographic that was attracted to the BMW 335 have had time to move up in their careers. At the end of the day it is a business.

I used to play music in a previous life... Take John Mayer for example... his music on the radio is mainstream and sells a lot. His really good stuff is the purist trio music. Way better for music aficionado's but doesn't make money.

A car at over $100 K should be special. It shouldn't appeal to everybody. It will lose its place if it becomes a tuner special.

The 991.2 I am sure will deliver what Porsche has always delivered which is a spectacular product. With this said I have to chime in on Porsche taking the Carrera to TT...it's not the right decision IMHO. Yes there will be more power and it will bring about a plethora of tuning options (I can only imagine the endless amount of "power packages" sold my multiple vendors), but it will take away from what the Carrera is supposed to be...a NA dream.

Personally with the budget that I had set I could have gone with a GTR or waited a few months for the new M4, but even though the other options had more power they had nothing on the drivability and responsiveness of the 991C4S. To me it had the perfect amount of power throughout the powerband and made me feel confident in the corners. In addition to all of the driver feedback from the car the Porsche offered more refinement than the other two cars. To me the other choices both suffered from a stigma of "racer boy". I don't want the 911 to fall into that category too.

I was also looking at a Vantage but after witnessing my friends v8 vantage nightmare I decided to let James Bond drive one and just go with the Pcar.

I don't see a lot of discussion about the rear axle steering. I have a 13 C2S which I love to drive on the track, Unbelievable car. I like the idea of more HP but what really distinguishes the 911S, to me, is the handling. If rear wheel steering makes the car handle "better" it would make me want to upgrade. I have never driven the current TT so I have no idea of the difference. Can anyone enlighten me?

The difference in power and feel with the TT is really different and puts them in different class of cars. Rear steering is a great point. I'm in the camp of wanting less change... the people that Top gear describes on the Singer episode - well that's me. "make it new and better but not different"... something else to break, etc.

On a track - it's going to probably equate to 2 to 3 seconds shaved off of a lap tip. Great if you are paid to race. Not much value for fun to drive factor.

F1 cars have used rear steering for a long time. That tells me something. Great that technology trickles down into the street car. Now the real question is rear steering felt or usable on the street at the speeds we go.
