Smoke from Engine!!

I have a first gen 991 base cab with about 12k miles. My warranty expires in May and tonight (3 weeks after scheduled oil change performed by Porsche) my car smelled like it was on fire and a ton of smoke was coming from the engine bay. I did not drive it aggressively and the car was warmed up. Has anyone experienced something like this!?

Thanks in advance

Was it actually on fire? Was it oil burning off where someone got sloppy and spilled oil all around? But since it's been 3 weeks that's a little suspect.

Someone had their 991 go up in flames after the shop supposedly left a rag in the engine bay.

Take it back to the dealer. Any service or work done by the dealer is warrantied for 12 month or 12k miles

I wold say look at the engine to see you see anything obvious but Porsche made that impossible ... did you check your garage floor to see if there are any leaks ...

Also what is your plan once the warranty runs out, I'm in a similar situation, my 991 warranty expires in mid April, I checked with my dealer and the 6 yr 60k mile warranty was $6100 with a $250 deduct.

Have the dealer pick up your car on a flatbed.

Most of us can't wait for our warranties to expire so that we can finally go to Indy shops without repercussions.

I know it is really expensive, the 100 deductible was $7,800 ... The company quoted which I have had very good experience with is Fidelity.

I have the same exact warranty 6 yr/60k miles on my R8 with $100 deduct ($0 deduct if serviced at the selling dealer) and I only paid $2600 plus tax.

Getting the car towed today. I was planning on getting an extended warranty. Truthfully I'm worried about a major issue arising and being out of warranty.

Service advisor said I may have driven over something. I didn't feel anything and I find it hard to believe doing something like that would cause such a huge issue.

I didn't see any flames but the smoke eventually went away. Smelled like something was burning but it just a lot of smoke.

Turns out they put too much oil during the last oil change and some leaked into the exhaust pipes!

Picked up the car yesterday. Could this have damaged the engine?

Did you have the high level oil warning light on?

It's easy to spill oil "on to" the exhaust when you put oil in to the car a little to quick and it overflows but if they said "in to" the exhaust the high oil light should have been lit up.

Just my thoughts.

I should mention I drove the car for a couple weeks and it was fine, granted very short trips but still.

This is such a joke. Porsche technicians putting in too much oil. You pay exorbitant fees and go specifically to Porsche because they are suppose to know what they are doing, and this is what happens?? Plus all the time and effort on your part -- they should pay you for all the fuss you have gone through. Well, sorry for you and everything you had to go thru. You should try to get like some extended warranty from them. I pretty sure the Porsche manual warns against overfilling the oil.
