Brake Pad/Rotors Experience
Brake Pad/Rotors Experience
Guys, I am coming due for a pad change and I am getting a lot of conflicting advice. If you have changed your pads recently, please advise:
1. What brand pads did you use? If aftermarket (Pagid, Textar, etc) were you satisfied with the noise/performance?
2. Did you also change the rotors? (Even if they had no cracks, on the theory that the new pads will otherwise squeal from improper bedding against the old rotors)
Also, if anyone has a box of new 991 pads, please tell us who the manufacturer is (should be stamped on the back of the pad).

I recently installed Pagid yellows (RS29). I did not change the rotors. The pad noise is high when used on the street. After a few track sessions, the noise diminishes. I change back to street pads after track days. I don't know who makes the OEM pads as they are in my offsite garage. I will let you know if no one chimes in first.
OEM pads are Textar. I use Pagid RS 29 on the track and Centric PosiQuiet on the street. The Centrics are fantastic. Super low dust. I love them.
As far as the rotors, it really depends on how grooved they are. For the street it's not much of an issue. More so for the track. Then again, I crack rotors on the track way before I wear them out. I've got 14k on the car and am on my fifth set of rotors.

BTW, I replaced my pads with Centric Posi-quiet pads, and couldn't be happier with them. Much less dust, no squeaking, and plenty of bite. There weren't that many pads available for my C2S when I replaced them, and I was worried since I had never heard of them. Found some good reviews and took the plunge. Highly recommend them for street use.

mtony -- Did you change the rotors when you did the pads? My rotors look fine (no cracks or visible grooves) but my indy is telling me that the warp on the surface will make the new pads squeek.

No, just swapped pads. My rotors only had around 8K miles on them. No issues with pad transfer incompatibility or anything like that. If you have issues now, or your rotors have more than 40K miles, then i would replace rotors too.
Kona Kai, as someone who has done a lot of wrenching on cars over the years, I understand what your mechanic is telling you. He wants to make sure the job is perfect and you don't come back complaining about any issue with your brakes. There's always a chance the brakes might squeak, etc. They do that from the factory too! The way he sees it, if he makes some extra dough while minimizing the chance that you'll be back with a complaint, even better for him!

Have you any recommendations for replacement rotors, that are not cross drilled? I have just ordered a new front set from Brake Performance. They are slotted and dimpled. Giro's are way too pricey for me. I ordered Sebro rears from Pelican, however I cannot find slotted for the rears.
. Yet to find an a faster "S" on the track. I have not located and I don't think they exist, a slotted rear rotor. I have been in contact with Giro and they have indicated they are 6-8 weeks away from launching the rear slotted Giro rotor for the 3.4L. For now, I am using cross drilled rotors and am lucky to get 6 track days before they crack. Its getting really frustrating, I am spending more $$ on rotors than tires.
