Battery replacement
Battery replacement
Has anyone on this forum replaced their own battery with a non-Porsche battery? The dealer wants $455 and I can get a Duracell AGM for $209. Add my time and hassle it might be a wash at the end. Wondering if there is anything magical about the Porsche battery and the process of replacing it. I know there is a reprogramming step which the dealer does when a new battery is put it. thx.

you are going to get a wide range of answers to this based on past post -- those that think the Porsche battery and installation tasks are a giant waste of money and time and those that think that having the dealer do the reprogramming is worth it.
Me, I've decide to go with the dealer install based on my readings and subsequent understanding/belief that the reprogramming does extend the life of the new battery. And once I "sign up" for the dealer doing the reprogramming anyway on a battery I put in, it just makes sense to me to have them do the whole job. Mine is going to be part of a 4 year service and a new tire install --- so I'm taking out a 2nd mortgage on the house anyway

The car needs to be reprogrammed for the new battery. Without, the computer thinks it still has the old battery and may overcharge the new one.

this battery does not drop voltage as low as the stock did from the very beginning..I replaced it after 5 years.
I called Porsche on this as I wasn't about to pay $500 for a stinking battery...they said none needed.

You can also have the air changed in the tires while you wait it will have the same consequence....the original Porsche battery is not really very good and Porsche sources batteries from different manufactures throughout the model run.
I'm 5000 miles post battery change...it starts, charges, and drops to the nominal voltage level like before...you want to drop $500 on a $200 battery, make sure they wash the car

Porsche branded tire air costs triple. N-rated air...
Well I've decided to bit the bullet and ended up with a Porsche battery. In the end it was a ~$230 difference in the total price tag. One thing I've noticed right away with the new battery is that the charging voltage is much lower. 13.2V with new vs. 14.5V on the old battery. In addition the automatic start/stop feature is working more frequently.
