Battery Charger for Winter Storage

Hi....So I own a Deltran Battery Tender Plus that charges through the cigarette lighter at 1.25amps. I see that the Porsche Battery Maintainer charges at 5.0amps and also maintains the battery through the cigarette lighter. Is there any reason to spend the money to buy the Porsche version? Or am I good with the Battery Tender?

Thank you!!!

I have been using this CTEK for over four years with great results, both on 991.1s and 991.2s.

Been using Battery Tender for years with no issues. I see no reason to pay more. Battery Tender rocks.

The Battery Tender works. How can you improve on that?

I would stick with either the CTEK or Porsche battery tender and ideally hook it up to the battery directly. I used a battery tender plugged into the 12-V sockets in the cabin of the car, and it caused some fuses to burn out and screwed up the A/C control unit. Not sure why, but Porsche replaced the A/C unit twice, once under warranty and once an out of pocket expense.

That really is weird. Been using BT for over 10 years on various cars including my Porsche with no issues whatsoever. Strange. Are you sure the BT caused the issues?

I never had issues using the battery tender plugged into the 12v socket in my other cars, but when the issue (blown fuse and fried a/c control unit) occurred the second time, the Porsche service advisor mentioned that there could have been a voltage spike that caused the fuse to blow and short the panel. He advised me to stick with the Porsche battery charger and avoid the 12v sockets in the car to charge the battery.

I have used a Battery Tender on several motorcycles over the years and still do on my Fat Boy Lo...never a problem thus no need to pay the Porsche tax on such an item.
