oil level - to avoid air-oil separator problems

I was told, read it, or heard a while ago someone saying that on a 911, the oil level should not be filled to full up. I don't remember who the source was of this info, but the statement was to try to avoid air-oil separator problems. Can anyone confirm this idea being valid or not?

Never heard of this.
What I do know is that you should always recheck the oil level after any oil change, by running the engine for a few minutes.
Check the oil level again after the oil settles. Usually requires a top up.

With no replies here about not topping off the oil, I made a trip to the dealership yesterday to try to get their advice. The service advisor told me not to fill to the top. Doing so creates too much pressure in the separator. There is a silicone diaphragm in the separator that can fail from too much pressure. It makes me now wonder how many owners have had there separator replaced (from filling oil to the top)?

Thanks for the info.
Just know that from the bottom to the top of the eletronic gauge, is a mere 1/2 quart.

Never, never fill any vehicle with oil up to the top of dipstick or digital oil display. On a 991, drain, add 7 qts and close it up. Go thru the oil check procedure, add a small amt at a time just up to the middle of the display! 991s dont use much if any oil btwn changes.

I don't think that is accurate, I think it is more like close to 2 quarts. Each segment represents about .36 of a quart.

You are correct - I was referring from the bottom to the top of the bar and not the entire gauge.
Thanks for the clarification.
