Guidelines to purchase a 993?

Hi guys,

I own a 997S but I would like to add a 993. I have no idea about what to look for on a 993. What is the best year? Common problems, C2S vs C4S? Desirable options? What things are a no-no? I usually like to do my homework and feel good when a buy something.

I like the widebody C4S, do the have any issues?

Please help. Thanks

I'm presently researching 993's at the moment and a Porsche nut friend of mine has lent me the book entitled:

Porsche 993 The Essential Companion written by Adrian Streather (Veloce Publishing)

Its a very thick 640 page book that talks about what exact models were made by year (ROW - rest of world and US markets), the purchasing process, and what to look out for in terms of specific models (C4S, Carrera, cabriolet, targa, etc.), servicing, maintenance, etc. etc.

As a matter of fact there is no such thing as a C2S as you've noted as that appears to be a common mis-conception in regards to the 993. RWD 993's are often referred to this but in fact the only Carrera 2's made were the 356 and 964 series.

See this book helped already!

My brother is thinking of selling his '98 cab. I want to list it on 6speed, but I need more posts. Is there any place else good to advertise? He tried another internet luxury car broker, but so far they haven't been very helpful. They offered to sell it to porsche dealer for trade in value.

is the automatic reliable?
is it maintain a 6 speed easier than the auto?
coupe vs cab, the drive on the coupe is much more solid than the cab?
outside of turbo, c2, c4, c2s and c4s, which one has the best drive and resale?
thank you all

I have a '97 993 C4S and would highly recommend one!! :-) If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them for you.

I've had two 993 C4S in the past few years and they were identical cars but were very different in terms of what needed maintenance and work. They were both around the same mileage and the same year. I researched and car faxed each one and they both had records of maintenance. It all comes down to inspection and how it was previously driven. Let me know if you have more questions.
