Anyone install a TrafficPro OEM Nav?

Has anyone upgraded their 2000-2002 996tt from basic CD/Radio to the TraffficPro TechEquip #00-044-900-78? There is a seller on ebay selling these new old stock for $299, I know it's a basic nav and there are better solutions but I like the idea of it looking very stock. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, I have.

I fact I liked very much and I used a lot when I was at the US , here I use it in with help of Google Earth to get the right coordinates and get to a specific place.

It's looks sharp, the OEM Radio and works good with the voice command and arrows...good tool if you are in a different town or road.

Just one thing...and it may be just me, I think the OEM radio sound a bit better but this is really subjective.

I hope its helps.

Thanks for the response Pierre, what was involved w/the installation? What additional parts did you need? What were you charged to put it in? Thanks again for the info!

No additional parts. The radio i coming with and little antenna 1 inch^2 that you locate on the defroster dash and the specific tool to remove the radio. I did it at Car Toys because does not need any big science to install.

Thanks again, I thought there was something needed to feed the car data to the radio? Maybe I'm mistaken. Also, did you mean to say that the radio tool and the antenna come with the radio?

Thanks, any install tricks? No addl stuff to hook up?, just re-attach the same cables from the existing radio/cd and fit/plug in the antenna? DIY job?

I have it on my GT2. I think it's called the TrafficPro 4720. It's basic but does the job and matches the rest of controls very well. I bought the version 10 software and Nav data that is just released in Jan '08. If you want someting more advanced but keep close to the OEM look, check out the Bcker Cascade pro. I've just upgraded the front speakers, added a small amp and an Ipod cable. It now sounds much better without adding too much weight. Install was done by a pro shop. I'll post some pics over the weekend.

Thanks for the feedback...FYI there are several of these on EBay for only $299, pretty good deal for this upgrade. Still looking for definitive info on the install. Seems to me there's got to be more to it than just the GPS antenna and plug and play....doesn't there need to be a way to tell the nav what the car is doing? Maybe not...

I installed the traffic pro in my car a couple of years ago. It looks completely stock and works well enough. A plus is that it does more or less plug right in as it was one of the stock options. The GPS antenna goes into the "bump" in the middle of your dash, right where the blinking red LED is located. I have since removed it and gone to an add on "Tom-Tom" that just plugs into the cigarette lighter. I did this because the Tom-Tom is up to date with locations and can be constantly updated with computer down loads. The traffic pro is old school (in only five years!) and much of it cannot be updated. The Tom-Tom is quickly removed. I only need GPS help in the TT rarely after all. I can also take the Tom-Tom with me to other states and even countries; I just used one in England and Germany and it worked great. Just my 2 cents; if you want a completely stock look keep your standard head unit and just get the Tom-Tom, or Garmin, or Magellan plug ins.......
P.S. I now have three old stock head units, the original from my '95 993, the original from my '01 TT, and now the traffic pro....
