Which Car? Nissan GTR or Corvette ZR1
I did bother. The problem is that US versions tend not to be nearly as good as their OCONUS counterparts. That is why I keep on saying that when it makes it to the US, we will see how it compares. Euro versions of the same cars are always faster, and I am sure that is the case where you live. All the crap that goes in our cars slows them down, ie. weight, smog, safety, etc.
.....Hey, when it makes it here, I will be the first to go test drive one and if it is as good as people seem to think it is and if it is less than a ZO6 as they indicate, it may just be my next purchase. There are many if's there though.

When the GTR raced in the Australian Touring Car Championship between 1990-1992, it won something like 12 out of 14 races, including a 12 hour endurance.
They continually tried to handicap it with weight penalties to no avail.
They had to eventually ban it.
It's wise to wait and try it out as you've suggested, but in the meantime, try and resist the temptation to jump on the wagon of some of the delusional fanboys who deny every mag result where the GTR shines as just hype.
Australian racing car fans as well as those who have driven even the early versions, will tell you it's no hype.
Look's I'll grant you is another matter.
Hey Fadi, Had a quick side trip to Japan...the local Director's Son took me for a spin. It is Ultra quick, very very smooth, seats are great!!
I am currently at LAX, heading back to Oz tonight. Also had a great meeting with Kevin (UMW) last Friday....he is a wizard!! Talk soon

A side trip...hahaha...did you cycle there or take public transport?
Hope the hosties are looking after you.
Is Kevin working some more magic on your turbo's?
I reckon a charcoal GTR in your garage would look great.
chat soon.
problem is that the only real test I have seen is the R and T and motorweek which I posted a quote from. What other rags have had tests? I'd like to check them out.
There is no doubt that the old skyline has a great rep in japan and asia. However, I wonder why it never entered into the LeMans GT/GTS classes to compete against Vettes, Vipers and GT2's both in Europe and the American LeMans circuit n the US. It would have qualified with no problem. I think that would have done wonders for sales and it wold have proven itself against world class competition sponsored by world class competitors.
The ideology behind the GTR is basically like porsche, technology, technology, technology, vs the vette and viper which use low tech high cubic inches to get the same result. Performance wise they are all very close. My point is that we need to see more examples of this NEW model which is totally different than the models you spoke of winning in Oz.
Let's face it, the old skyline got itself spanked in the 1/4 by the stock 911 turbo and that same turbo held it's own against the skyline on the track after having gone all out in a race against a 360 with hot motor and worn tires. The new skyline is a totally different animal and unless you have multiple track results showing how it worked over a ZO6 or anything else, I think it is prudent to wait a bit before getting one.

I'll await the arrival and then we'll see what's what... some of us are thinking in terms of "modified" vs. stock, and that's just not fair... i've been very guilty of that, and had to be reminded again and again... The GT-R, in stock trim, is very impressive. However, I think the phanbouyz and the press are doing this car a huge disservice. Expectations are going to force the price higher than the $20+K markup I was qouted to get on the list. Looks are subjective, so I'll just forget those comments from this point forward...
Now what I AM hearing is that the Jspec version is not allowing software/hardware upgrades without a huge headache for the tuners... They may eventually crack the tuning code, but what Im' hearing is the car is not friendly to powermods... Certainly not to the level that the 996TT/997TT have been...
Again, let's await the arrival and see how it stacks up...

I am sure the price will be no where near the ZO6 and I am betting as I have said before that it will come in at 85k.
The reason why it does not lend well to aftermarket tune is because it has already been highly squeezed from the factory. All the mods that 911TT owners do to their rides, like better intake and ECU have already been done on the skyline. However, you can still go high with the skyline and do much larger turbos and crank out high Hp.

No way. If that car came in at 100k, it would kill itself in the states. I can't emaigine anyone who would take that car at 100k when they can get vettes and vipers for less and a new 997tt for a little more. If you can afford 100k, chances are you can afford 130k.
I think the max will be more like 85k. But if Nissan is smart it will bring the skyline in at 55k. I would wait. preorders are where you get hosed anyway. This is true for all models and makes

There has been a gentle performance evolution from 993tt-996tt and 997tt.
(and that's good for 993tt and 996tt owners!) Not so with the competition...and I don't just mean the GTR.

It's tricky to get the mag flat with one hand to scan..I have a fractured wrist.
I'll try again later when I have some help. But you can see that even on a small track, there is a vast difference in performance between the R35 and the earlier models.
