A VERY custom 996 GT2 "RSR"...
The transmission is a compromise, it was re geared and re tooled, it has a sequential style shifter, but at the same time he doesnt need to have the noise of a regular sequential with straight cut gears, is a road/race car not just a race car. You need to take that into fact. I know very few people who have/can stand a true sequential on the road. Also looking at the time, effort and cost he has put into this, im guessing he has is reason that are very concrete and sensible. Im not sure if you have ever driven a car with a race gear box, but its about as comfortable as getting mugged in the corner of a rock concert, you will walk away with bleeding ears, broken spine from the shifts, and a right arm that wants to snap off.
I have actually been in 2 cars with this shifter fitted (Oakley GT3 and another GT3)... I also know of another in a GT2... I was actually thinking of fitting this system 3 years ago through Mr Jokely who managed to rip everyone off and for your information I have converted a Tippy to a Manual... I know exactly what works and what doesn't and a Tippy is not for a race car.
Seriously are you having a go at me here.
1: I don't know who Mr Linton is and to be honest I don't really care.
2: To even suggest installing an Auto in this car makes me think Mr Linton doesn't know what he is talking about, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
3: It looks to me more like Mr Linton is advertising products on the 6speed website, I might be very wrong but is he a sponsor here? if yes I will take this back!

Robert's posts were in no way advertising.
actually your right, i came into this conversation uneducated I retract my previous statements regarding the application to this car and offer up my apology. sorry stevo!
I am just being honest here and most would probably say the same, I think you are blowing this way out of proportion... Jeez what is this place becoming like!!!
Right Chad, I have much respect for you, I have talked with you before regarding Diffs etc, but you are way out of line here having a pop at me... I stated "Why the hell would he consider going Auto in this RACE CAR" that was all... how is that belittling Mr Linton?

Here is where I am coming from. 1badgt2 has put together a car that is off the charts. I do not believe that for the most part money was an object. With that being said I have seen some pretty remarkable products and innovations surface over time from those who decide to push the envelope.
Robert Linton is one of those type of people. He posted a pic and made a comment. I would have really like to have probed for information and found out why the comment was made. I never assume I know everything.
I had spoken to Robert over a week ago, hoping to get him to participate here at 6speed. I only hope our warm welcome hasn't driven him away.
I know where you are coming from but I didn't think my response was that bad to be blown this far.
Ok... new response "I DON'T THINK THE AUTO/TORQUE CONVERTOR THAT YOU HAVE PICTURED WILL SUIT/FIT THIS RACE CAR"
Jeez... that reply makes me look a bit mmmmm!

Gentlemen:
A huge mountain has been made out of a very small mole hill. I apologize. This morning, very early this morning, as I was looking at specs for a silicon carbide ceramic material capable of withstanding temperatures in excess of 1000C (1832 F) as it may be applicable for a specialty land vehicle exhaust, I received a posting to this particular thread at which I have not looked for almost a year. Seeing that the vehicle was complete, and knowing that Cary Eisenlohr (who I sometimes call Uwe as he occasionally does work that reminds me of some of Uwe Gemballa's better vehicles), who has spent several years working on this car, tends to be at his office in the late hours of the night, I called him to congratulate him on completion. Having, purely coincidentally, but a day ago, sent to Cary pictures of the one off titanium torque converter that has been built for testing (not for Porsche), he and I thought it would be taken as a good joke to suggest that, bearing in mind all of the modifications that have been done, an automatic transmission be placed in this car when, of course, it would be wholly inappropriate. Again, sorry it was taken in the wrong way.
P.S. I was not advertising nor would I as we do not sell retail parts to individuals.
