modded 996tt as a daily driver?

Yes, I did a search. Found the whole 996tt vs e46 m3 threads, etc. But nothing really addressed using a modded 996tt as a daily driver. I think I saw one guy say he has/had used his as a DD.

I am considering putting a HPF stage 2 turbo kit on my M3, or getting a nice 01-02 996tt with low/mid miles (30-50k) and upgrading that to 600-700hp. I spent 30k on my M3 and can do the HPF kit for 22k installed including clutch. Done deal.

Or, I can get a 01 996tt for 45k and throw 20k into that and have almost as much hp as the stage 2 M3.

And yes I would like to DD one of these cars. Call me crazy. If it got too crazy, I could buy a more tame DD if need be.

So, the question is: how many of you guys DD your modded 996tt, and how has your experience been? Or why wouldn't you if you choose not to?

Thanks, and sorry for the length. I'm new here.

Dave

I DD mine. Last year i put 16,000 miles on it. Only problem I have with the TT is the seats. Other then that its a perfect DD. I have flash/DVs/straight pipes. Only problem is if you drive hard like i do, you go through 2 sets of tire a year. Oil changes, are easy to do and i do them myself. Great all around car.

I put on 40k miles with over 600 hp.. no issues.. its meant to be driven..
as far as the supercharged m3... dont even bother.... a local guy bought the m3 did a stage 3... lost to a basic turbo and exhaust set up from protomotive that was 6500 bucks... 3 months later he sold the m3 and bought a porsche... both guys I know ..

What's your complaint with the seats? Just not comfortable/supportive for DD?

No, you musta misread. No supercharger for me. The HPF turbo kit is very impressive. One of their first customers traps 133 with the stage 2 kit. Its over 600rwhp on race gas. Not bad for $22k installed including clutch.

I haven't even driven a 996tt yet - going to test drive a few this week.

Thanks for the reply. Your 9 second turbo must be one helluva ride!

Yes, it is an impressive kit so far. Most mileage anyone has on it so far is like 5k, so long term durability not proven yet. We shall see....

Yeah, I do a lot of e46 guys moving to the 996tt. I had ridden in my buddy's 01 turbo years ago when it was new and it was pretty quick, but I have a requirement for faster/quicker cars now than back then.

Does your 9 second 01 run on pump or race gas?

In my opinion, better reliability for a engine that was designed for boost than an engine that was not. For reliability, I would go with the 996tt.

I am DDing my 996TT since I bought it 6 months ago. Very reliable and comfortable. The only problem is that I always got the nerve to speed while on it................. no regret anyway.

Mine is a daily driver with 550 whp. My sport seats are very comfortable, more so than my M3 seats. I love my M3 but must say that my 996TT is a whole different league. I also think that the Porsche turbo engine can handle up to 600 whp with a bolt on kit much better than the M3 with a HPF kit. It is a very nice kit and yields alot of HP but certainly much more risky as far an engine longevity. BTW I raced the HPF stage 1, he ran 98 octance and I used 91 octane and beat him pretty easily over and over.

Mine is my DD. Snow less than 4"... :-)

The car is happy being used...probably more so than if it just sat.

I avoid ice if I can, but if bad, it just goes. The car is actually amazing in bad weather.

Pirelli 240's and zoom. Just took them off for VIR.

I used my 04 M3 as a DD, and now my Stage 1 TT. It does fine. I even avg the same mileage (about 14-15 mpg) in the turbo, and I'm on it quite a bit.

I have a car/booster seat in the back, and the TT is only slightly more inconvenient. Over all trunk space and usable is off course significantly less.

The M3 is a high reviving, high compression engine like the GT3 its not designed for high boost, so if your going to go for high HP its counterproductive. As Marksi says you'll end up wanting the 996 turbo later anyway. There so many retarded deals right now on already upgraded turbos go check out the for sale section. You can get one with 600-700HP for 25 cents on the dollar or less for the mods. Personally I love the techart GT kits.

I daily drive my 03 but its only Stage 2. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to upgrade to 16/16g (for 600max) or something with 650-700 potential.. decisions.. decisions..
