Moton Setup?

I recently had a set of Motons installed. I have been out of town since the install, but plan on tracking the car the day after I get home. I'm looking for some suggestions on setup. To make things more difficult, I have front and rear GT3 sway bars. I'm not sure how the tech has altered the setting from they way they used to be. Let's guess they are still set at 2nd stiffest in the rear and 2nd softest at the front. Thanks!

Hey Zippy, what do you mean by set up (ride height, spring weight, canister placement, etc...?). Arent the GT3 sways only 3 way adjustable? That means both are set in the middle ya? And it all depends, most like a little initial push. If you dont track much that's probably your safest bet. For that go full soft in front and middle in the rear. If you want a little oversteer go middle front, full stiff in the rear. It also depends on what size tires your running...

Mike, if it is first time at track there is no point with any kind of suspension set up as long as they have been correctly installed in the first place, I know that sounds patronizing but when Motons are installed they really need to have the correct ride height, wheel alignment, corner weighted basically geo checked.

When on track you best start on a hard or soft setting and work your way in as this will be much easier to judge, your rebound is always going to be around 2 or 3 clicks (+) I would start on softer setting working up to hard. You will get a rough indication but I suspect you are not going to get the full benefits until 4/5 good track sessions once you have correct sway settings (under/oversteer)

It's a combination of everything coming and working together correctly, don't forget tires and correct pressures, once you have run a few laps get into pits and get them at correct pressures if you don't you will not be able to set jack **** up

Zippy,

Did you have an experienced suspension guy do a full alignment and corner balance.

I would start with this and get recommendations from some fellow MOTON track guys.

good luck, you are a lucky man!

I've done some track days and wouldn't be much more than a middle of the pack intermediate.

My OLD Setup
Sways (assuming 1=soft): Rear=3/4 (firm) & Front=2/5 (soft)
Tires: RA1s 245/40/18 and 335/30/18
OLD JIC Settings: 75% Hard (rear) & 25% Soft (front)
I was very happy with this setup.

New Setup
Sways (assuming 1=soft): Rear=3/4 (firm) & Front=2/5 (soft)
Tires: R888s 245/40/18 and 335/30/18
Moton Clubsports: ???? Sorry for sounding like a dork, But I haven't a clue about these coilovers. I had them installed at EVO. They had a shop in the Phoenix area install and corner balance the car. I wish I had asked for a spec sheet on the allignment setup and suspension settings.

All I'm looking for here is to fine tune the coilovers while at the track. These things have both rebound and compression settings, don't they? I know some of you are shaking your head right now, but I haven't really had the time to pay better attention. I'm assuming compression adjustments would produce similiar results as with the JICs. What does adjusting rebound settings accomplish?

I'll be getting up before the sun Sunday AM to make the 2.5 hour drive to the track. I haven't made the Journey much since my 4 year old was born. It would be nice to be able to make a couple of tweeks on those remote canisters. I'm going to jack up the car and confirm those sbar settings.

Thanks! Mike

Cool Ray. That sounds great. I'll PM my phone number.

I confirmed the SB settings. Front is second loose (soft), second hole from the end. Rear is second last (hard) away from the end. Coil overs are silver and say "Club Sport" Both front and rear are set at 4/6 hard. I thought these motons would have more than 6 settings (?). Doesn't seem to be different option for rebound and compression, so I assume the operate the same as the JICs. Springs seem softer than my JIC "medium" springs.

Mike, the Motons compaired to the JIC's is like chalk and cheese, trust me I have been running the Motons for 2 seasons now. Ray is correct and you do need to soften rear sway. Seriously just adjust the sway bars and don't interfere with the shock settings until you get to track. Start on Soft setting and work up, this way you will find your groove, keep rebound either 2/3 clicks (already mentioned this) What pressures are in the canisters?

OMG canister pressure! I have no idea. No time to adjust sways for tomorrow morning. Will start off slow and determine what the car seems to want to do. Will soften up the rears if seems to oversteer. What is the reccomended cannister pressure?

Thanks Stevo!

Nitrogen goes into the canister, I run 175psi front and 250psi rears.

Have you got the Moton guage or similar, means you can check pressure without loosing a lot?
