Cool educate me

Major Newbe here. my 996 turbo tip 2002 with 28k mile on it is going thru its step 1. based on a fairly lazy look at this forum i am doing an FVD flash, sport filter, and DVs. (I liked the price, and because i am in montana, no trip to the tuner.) Anyway, I have had the car 1 week and am getting really into it. When you guys talk about how many bar you pull, exactly what are you measuring and how are you measuring it. also, my car which I thought was stock has a red airfilter which looks like the bmc sport, and exhaust tips which say eisenmann and look like circles with cresent moons around them on the outerside, making an ovalish shape. How do i tell if the exhaust is an upgrade or stock? what other mods should I look for, and how? My ECU file is now at FVD, waiting for response. I hope I didn't just phase one a car which was already phase oned!

All of your questions can be answered by simply doing a search on this fourm....go to the search function and simply enter words that describe what it is you would like to investigate....like "exhaust system", or "diverter valves", or "turbo upgrades", or "flash tuners", or "performance upgrades". A little investigating on your part will answer all the questions you might ever have. The library of information here is enormous.

Good luck in your searches.

Welcome aboard.

bar is a measure of pressure...your car will report the bar on the instrument panel....check your manual for how to do this.

FVD is a good contact...what other mods you want depends on where you want to be. I suggest you first sit yourself down and decide where you want to be (when you grow up...). Then talk to the tuners....Kevin, Todd K., Todd, Stephen, etc....they will give you suggestions.

BTW I think you mean stage 1 not phase 1

thanks

thanks for the responses. i was hoping that the car did the bar thing already. i am guessing this is a measurement of turbo boost pressure, not G force felt in the cabin. (both interesting numbers). i have been searching the forum and other spots to try and figure out if i have just fancy tips or a sport exhaust, but that is not so easy to figure out. anyway, lovin the 996tt. what is so amazing is how comfortably ths high performance car drives around town like a little baby....and then...........

The OEM exhaust tips are made by Eisenmann, so your exhaust is stock. I thought the same thing as you, but after some research, I realized they are OEM.

take a peak under the rear of the car at the exhaust system.. you should be able to tell if its factory or not

Don't be sensitive. You'll occasionally get teased, but it's all in good fun. Sometimes you'll feel like you are sitting in the front row of a comedy store.
