Plastic air flow regulator Pre MAF

any thoughts as to whether this air flow regulator in the 996 OEM airbox makes any difference performance wise in or out, obviously one stills needs the wire mesh grill behind it though ?

That thing straightend the air out so the MAF can get a proper reading of air volume entering the car. Without it, air density, read at the MAF, will fluctuate and not be representitive of actual air volume passing through the intake.

had mine out for a year put it back in today, it seems to restrict boost by 0.1 as it is an addition physical restriction to air flow

Just to see if it made any difference, my TT will only pull 1.2 bar in the lower gears and it will be coming out

I'm not sure what your mods are, but unless you run race gas and have done some work...1.2 is fine.

I am doing 1,1 with std gas and wanted to pull the gates a little more to be at the 1,2, is it safe with std gas? or should I just stay as I am? I only have 5 FPR for the gas part nothing else

There is some debate on this...I would not run over 1,1 with 91 (PON)...I don't know what your other mods are, but for most 1,1 is fine as max. Remember it is not all about boost....it is about power.
