PowerChip INSTALLED...wow!

Hi all;
Not sure if any of you have given the PowerChip a tryout.

I just put one on my 2003 996TT and it is simply amazing. Even with stock turbos, exhaust and K&N filter, boost comes on as early as 2200rpms. .7 bar at a little over 3K rpms and the gauge shows about 1.0 bar at full kill.

Unbelievable...no check engine light, either. Pulls hard in every gear, even 6th. Very nice mod.

Best part is that they can reprogram for you after each mod to compensate, they can also custom burn chips for your exact mods and the price is about $2500 over the counter.

I checked these guys out thoroughly before I took the plunge and I was wondering if any of you have given them a shot.

www.powerchipgroup.com if you want more info.

BTW: still looking for a killer exhaust that looks good, makes REAL hp for about $2000 or less. Anyone?? Bueller???

Most guys on this board choose between GIAC and Upsolute for ECU mods.

For the camp that plans to do lots of mods down the road, they go with GIAC.

For the camp that thinks "You get what you pay for", they also go GIAC.

For the guys that want "Best Value for the Money", they choose Upsolute.

GIAC = $2000
Upsolute = $500

Although PowerChips has a pretty good rep, GIAC has a much better one for $500 less.

On this board, Upsolute also has a good rep and is the "Chip of Choice" for guys who don't plan to do much modding after the chip, exhaust etc.

This being said, all the chips are pretty much the same in the end so I'm sure your Powerchip setup will bring you lots of enjoyment!

- KJ

P.S. I have a 2002 M3 and your M3 has always been one of my Top 3 favorite M3's!!! VERY well done!!!

Go with the Fabspeed for your exhaust requirements.

Is that why the Shootout winning car, the 3rd Place entrant, and CJV all use Protomotive???

SP Engineering's software is also excellent.

That's the problem with Promotive. They do not have packages. Every car is a one-off and most guys, including myself, are not into experimenting too much with these cars. For those on the bleeding edge, it is necessary to do something not already proven and "packaged". For the rest of us who are not driven to be totally unique in power developement and can live with 600+ HP in a proven, definable package, GIAC is the way to go.

Actually, Todd Knighton at Protomotive will ask you what you have and where you want to be. If you want to run K/16s...K/24s...Hybrids....Garretts...whatever, He'll deliver in a very helpful and knowledgeable fashion.....Boy will he deliver....

Outside of custom package deals, I have not seen any info about power gains from Protomotive for people with just bolt on mods... i.e. k16s, k24s, intake, headers, exhaust. That is probably why most people on this forum either has GIAC or Upsolute. In addition, I think Protomotive only works direct and not through dealers which also limits things. Having said that, there is no question Protomotive's one-offs are incredible performing cars. Todd has my friend's 996TT for about 6 months now... doing another custom thing...
