Tuner Loyalties
I have bought from many tuner/suppliers; Mostly with good luck
1)I/A; knowledgable but can be high priced and arrogant about it.
6) Protomotive; trustworthy, expensive, and also has THE MOST TUNING knowledge
The above are only my opinions and you know how much opinions are worth
.
Neil Orton: Orton Performance; Has owed me over $5,000 for more than
2 years...so no, I would not currently recommend him

I would have to take exception with what is said about Stephen (IA) and Todd (Protomotive).
I believe you are reading Stephen wrong. Yes he is extremely talented and has the knowledge. He has never come across to me as arrogant. The issue that surfaces is when someone wants to argue with him that the world is flat. In other words he doesn't want to waste time discussing something that he already knows is true.
As for his prices, although he has never done work on my car ......... he has quoted prices. To make a long story short, when KA was taking so long to finish the motor I asked Stephen to give me a price to assemble the motor. His price was about twenty percent below the West Coast prices. The only reason I didn't have him do it was I had already payed for the work in advance. Otherwise I would would have given him the job. Price was great and God knows he is qualified.

My argument regarding Todd was your description as "the most tuning knowledge." I have used Todd and will continue to use Todd. Todd is one of the best. However, the company is very distinguished when you also have people like Lauren Beggs and Neil Harvey out there. I have used all of them, and believe me I couldn't say any one of them has the most tuning knowledge. Most people don't hear much about Lauren and Neil, because they work mostly for racers and many tuners go to them for advice, parts and machine work.

Here is one of Beggs creations https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...6-gt2-rsr.html Marty, note the author of the second post.

The funny thing is that Lauren Beggs does not program the factory computers, or at least last year when I was going to have him build my car he said he had a friend that may be able to. Not wanting to be a test
project I passed. He does offer a race set-up if you don't want all accesories.

I have to disagree with Marty on a few things. I've had nothing but good dealings with iA and recommend them to anyone. Stephen has done nothing but help me along the way with my car. Yes I purchase my parts through him, but I do not buy a lot (so that's not the reason why).
I also like the pot shot you took at Tony @ EPL saying Todd has forgotten more than all the tuners. I beg to differ, as a certain tuner has rewritten codes that Todd has not to add things like a 2step, brake boosting, flat foot shifting, etc.. There are plenty of tuners that know 3 or 4 times more than Todd when it comes to tuning period. Todd is VERY knowledgable and I am not discrediting him because he also has given me tips with my setup also. He is one of the front runners with tuning, but doesn't meant the new guys aren't any good either. That's all I am really trying to say. Wait till the standalones start showing up and people like Justin Nenny (spelling I know is off) from Tuning Concepts gets a hold of a 996TT. I can bet that he will shock all of us with his tuning ability.

Yup he is the tuner for some of the fastest Supras in the world. He also travels all around the world doing tuning for other cars, etc. He is familiar with almost every standalone, etc. I know he is expensive but he is one of the best around.
Craig,
Great post … I spend most of my time on Rennlist and Pelican, but I do check the boards over here every so often. A few years ago, I selected a well known tuner based on information and member feedback from the many 930 forums and my experience was pitiful at best. I struggled with going public on the forums, but I did post a thread on Rennlist describing the circumstances and asked other members what they would do in my situation. I specifically asked that no tuner names be mentioned in the thread. Well, as the thread gained popularity, the tuner in question chimed in and admitted he was the tuner in question and his work was not at fault. All hell broke loose and within 2 hours, the thread was deleted and I was banned for a month. Moral of the story, don’t post negative feedback about Rennlist site sponsors. So the thread is gone and the negative feedback along with it. BTW, I’m not “beholding” to the tuner in any way. I would never allow this tuner to touch my car again.
Some members flamed me and some commended me for stepping up with information that can be helpful to others. What I learned is that these forums are sponsored and trolled by many tuners, some good and some not so good. Many have said that there are two sides to every story, but for some reason it is not acceptable to post negative experiences with certain tuners. I frequent these forums for information, right or wrong and it’s my job to determine if the information is correct and whether I’ll utilize the information or not. As a result of my bad experience, I will never use a tuner again. In the last two years, I’ve purchased all of the specialty tools necessary to service and maintain my car. Just recently, I dropped the motor and replaced all of my headstuds … The job turned out great and if any problems occur, I know exactly who to go to.
I’m not afraid to step up and share my experience with anyone, flame away. If you are interested in the details of my tuner experience, send me a pm. I wish more people had shared their tuner experiences on these boards, it may have made a difference wrt my tuner selection.
Regards, Dave

A number of you have requested information via PM's, which is fine, but I am unable to respond to PM's on the forum until I have posted 15 times.
