Tuner Loyalties
If you are talking about using a "premium" tuner as in "you get what you
pay for", I can point out a few "premium" tuners on the Viper side that get
a lot of free good press these days that screwed quite a few guys in the
past to the point that their name can't even be mentioned on the forum.
As I have always said, it's good to know the history of anybody you are
paying to mod your car, even if it hurts their p..ah feelings.

"H" ?
Ditto to what Mikelly said.
There is variance. People that have these cars are more type A probably than the general population....
Yada Yada Yada.
Nice post Mike! I agree with you. And, I suspect with k16/24's you have a beast. I plan to copy you one day, only doing the gt2 wheel units Kevin has...otherwise, same basic animal. Given the market, there is no point to selling these any time soon.

I too have been burned by a tuner and kept my mouth shut. I just moved on and they lost my business forever. I learned most of my mistakes while modifying my M3. Now I consider myself much smarter. I don't believe everything that tuners say. I want proof. Don't just tell me that a certain product increases air flow and power... I want dyno's and 60-130 times showing the difference and then hopefully independent testing from enthusiast on the forum. It amazes me that people just jump on the bandwagon and spend cash for stuff that has never been proven to increase performance. I guess that is what the tuners love and count on.
It is my opinion that this forum has become nothing more than a platform for tuners to advertise. The constant bumping of threads day after day to keep their threads alive that have to do with their product is very annoying. I want to here about products and experiences from non-biased enthusiasts only. Remember one thing when modifying cars..... Tuners are out to make money and sell parts and act as if they are your best friend.
When you find a good tuner that treats you like you have the only 996tt on the planet, consider yourself very very lucky.

I've been burned by tuners in the past on other cars, but I've also had very good experiences with others.
My brother (Lil Powell), _Zac, and I do almost ALL the work on my car and what we cannot do we have Akram take care of it for us. With us doing the work I know who to blame when something happens and we usually know what caused the problem. The tuning though I do leave to the professionals, but I do not expect them to cover me if my motor breaks when I'm running 1.6bar and the motor just finally lets go. Now if it was going lean on 1.0bar and it was clear in dyno/street logs that they ****ed up the timing tables/fuel tables... Then maybe there would be some hell to pay.

Bingo.
They ALL are guilty. Being the great lawyer that Craig is, maybe we should start class action lawsuit LOL

lol...who will cast the first stone? I have not had a bad experience yet with a tuner. Lucky so far.
I agree this phenomenon is present and thriving. I for one subscribe to the theory that you need to find "glowing references" for Porsche service and not "oh cool look at how much power i'm making". Then talk to the tuners and ask / bait them into making HP claims. The ones that are a) hesitant to give exact numbers b) downplay the HP gains and prefer to talk about the differences in drivability.... Well those are the ones to go with.
I would also add that some of us may feel that we would be subject to public bashing if we posted something to the negative. Bashing by the tuner and those who have an investment in their cars with that tuner. Meaning the downside to our online personas is not worth it.
I for one had a horrible experience with a pre-purchase inspection with a very prominent member on 6speed / tuner. They missed an obvious clutch accumulator on the car (VERY VERY OBVIOUS). He also did an alignment on the car (as i wanted it raised – it was overly dumped). I brought the miss to his attention, he spoke to the mechanic in my local area who confirmed it and then told me off for waiting a month to tell him about it and refused to do a thing. I just told him to keep his $$$, but because i didn't trust his work i had it realigned and it was way off. So in the spirit of sharing good news and my glowing referrals and experiences.
Tuning: Alex at Sharkewerks is AWESOME.
Alignment: Tony at TC Design (Milpitas) is AWESOME.
ABCDEF (anonymous tuner in LA): THE PITTS. Won't reveal because i'll just get bashed...
