MAF Issues ?

Hi all

What sort of things occur when the MAF starts to give up ?

Am getting a lot off fluffyness if thats a word mainly between 2000-3000rpm with light throttle basically crusing in traffic with foot just resting in accel pedal.

Doesn't seem to be there or isn't as noticeable if you are give it 3/4 or full throttle

Any idea before I spend on a new MAF ?

Thanks
Darren

that sucks, hope you can get it resolved. Are you possibly using the K&N air filter, without having washed the oil off it? I keep on hearing and have been advised not to use it without removing the oil out of it

No oil filter for me just stainless mesh

My friend who works for Porsche said when the MAF normally goes it goes so he didn't think it could be that.

Am gunna try and put a AFR on it to makesure it isn't going lean

From my experience, you wont know that your maf is going until it goes- will run like crap and you will probably get CEL, ABS and PSM lights.

Ard is spot on, how many miles on the car? pending this answer, check plugs and coils, get different fuel or maybe user a fuel injector cleaner. As Wross said, definitely get a Durametric, you can pull your own codes and reset warnings as well as data log- hell of a deal for a couple hundred bucks.

At the risk of controversy, if you have a EVOMS airbox, get rid of it.

On this board, it seems that a "bad maf" equates to a blown maf with the Christmas tree of lights...elsewhere we see a gradual diminution in the mafs, as evidenced by gradual fouling and an increasing adjusmtnet of the long term fuel trim until they can no longer compensate.

I suspect both occur with the 996TT, it's just the dramatic failure is clear. But a symptom fo the gradual fouling is engine thinking tehre is less air, but the O2 sensors demanding more fuel, so a fule trim that increases. (I foget if it is + or -...)

Have tried cleaning it didn't work, had PSM an ABS light come on but went off when IGN reset,

There was a few mesages on Porsche log last night , MAF, Valve lift control,Boost solinoid, CAT error, we reset them then I gave it some beans on way home and the PSM & ABS came back on so don't know what that would relate to until read again I guess.

Above errors could off been when I have had all parts off car to put my modded parts on, but now this time those 2 lights should be able to pin point a little better.

New Plugs only just fitted car done 60,000 miles
