Intercooler intake removal
How do I remove an intercooler intake?
I'm having a self generated rear wiper scratch repaired along with "I got keyed" damage just aft of the lowest part of the driver's door. The shop is going to repair the damaged areas, spray color only on those areas, and shoot clear on the entire rear quarter panel. I assume they will need to remove the intercooler intake on the driver's side, and I want to be sure they do it correctly.

What about the black plastic tube from the back of the intake (that goes aft to the intercooler). Isn't the intake attached to that?

So does the intake pull straight out, or up, or forward? Or just pull real hard in any direction?
Seems like when I pull on parts that are supposed to release manually, something breaks.

If your body shop doesn't know how you may want to consider taking it elsewhere. As for putting color over damage and clearing the rest of the panel, it is standard proceedure and likely the best repair possible.
Use a plastic "bondo speader" or something simialr to grab underneath the front end of the intake cover. They pull towards the front of the vehicle and that should pop the clips and come out in a jif. Hope that helps. It should be very easy but give it a good tug it has expanding clips inside.

I'm taking my car to my cousin who used to paint high end cars but got out of that business to build custom Harleys. He won "Best of Show" with one of his bikes last year at Daytona. He's very talented. He only paints cars for close friends and family members. One of his customers has an original Porsche Spyder and my cousin did the complete restore and painting. Beautiful car! He just hasn't painted (fixed) a Turbo before.

Seriously though, I love to get my hands dirty but a 996 engine is something I'm afraid to touch./ i'd love to know what I'm doing. Any suggestions on reading material?
