Is that because smog techs dont know what they are looking at when they are inspecting the 996TT's vs a Toyota or Nissan?

When I brought in mine to the DMV, the inspector ask me to open the "front hood" to look at the engine

you missed out on how he reacted. Did he end up looking at the back?

Actually, it was a woman. She was a little embarassed to says the least, and never inspected a P car before. Took a quick look in back and all was good.
