Interestingly, a stock Turbo charges to 175mph frantically, then it's 176, 177, 178, 179, 180, 181, 182, 183, 184, 185, you get the idea.
Top speed requires generous dose of HP and aerodynamics.

The M3 is geared to hit 201 mph, but unfortuneately drag limited.

You'll get diminishing return with extra HP at some point.
Aerodynamics is what it takes.

Yes sir, and with the governor removed and a little bit of mods, an E46 M3 is easily capable of hitting 180 mph with enough room. I have hit 170+ in mine on a few occasions and the car is solid. The M3 is geared to hit 201 mph, but unfortuneately drag limited.

BMW speedos are good for about 7 to 10% error (too fast) at those speeds. Their speedos are about as good as their electronics (and E46 motors).

Give it a break, my friend. No one cross-shops ANY Aston and an M3, or any BMW for that matter, and if you want to talk about pure, unadulterated flat-out performance, your first stop would not be a BMW dealership. I personally really like M3s but they are a POS when it comes to durability and reliability. This thread is about the Vanquish S, a candidate for the world's most beautiful car. Respect the subject matter of this thread or check out the BMW M section. I'm sure you'll find lots of friends there.
BTW, this thread about the Vanquish is in the Porsche forums, and I was just stating my opinion about the AM's performance characteristics compared to other cars.
Check this out... here is a nice vid of the M5.

What do Porsche speedos have to do with the accuracy of the claimed 170+ on the M3?

what are you trying to say, that an M3 isn't capable of going 170+ mph?

not exactly. rather i'm just saying that your achieving an indicated 170 via a famously bogus speedo is not good evidence they are capable of doing so.
