Audio alert when locking....;)

So, I'm really annoyed with the whole door handle yanking procedure to check if my car is locked. I also found a huge OOOga horn on sale at harbor freight.

Since the car sends a signal to the locks to lock over the wires, I've been thinking about experimanting with a DIY, of attaching the horn to the leads that lead to the locking mechanism. ???thoughts?

It might be annoying thou if you're in the car and go to "lock" the door while driving, but how often do you do that? It took me a month to actually find the "lock" button. I suppose I could run a lead from the igniton to a relay to disable the horn when the ignition is activated...

My 03 has a red LED/switch on the horseshoe, that lights up when the doors lock. They automatically lock when I start to drive. When I get out and hit the remote, the red LED on the top of the dash lights up (that you can see from outside from the front), When I see that, I know it's locked AND the alarm is set.

That led on the dash is harder to spot than the evil eye of Terminator 2. The only time it worked for me was during the last lunar elcipse.

There is an easier way. You can push the switch contact for the center console out of the way. Now the horn will beep everytime you lock the car. The downside is the center console will no longer be armed. Not good if you own a Cab and park with the top down.
What you need to do is look down into the area where it latches. You will see a flat silver piece of metal. Take a small screwdrive and push it back deeper into the latch area. If you down like the way this works the you can always reverse it.
This should not take longer the 2 min.

Mine didn't beep the horn when I first got it, but after I did my aftermarket stereo it started to do it. I'm not sure what Cartoys did though.

There is a security radio lead that they did not reconnect to the radio.

soothsayer is infamous around these parts
also, the horn sounds if you lock the car with the center glove box lid open... so you can make this work without affecting the dash security.

Just watch the lights flash after you lock the car, 1 flash lock 2 flashes unlocked. It may be the other way around.

There's a "LOCK" button?? Man, I gotta get my car out of winter storage soon so I can 'rediscover' all the toys.
