Rear tires rubbed through the fender liners
Rear tires rubbed through the fender liners
I can't understand why my car is doing this.
I have stock tire sizes, 225/40/18 front, and 295/30/18 rear. My car is lowered 1 1/2 inches on PSS9s with a stock alignment on stock wheels. I would like to put 235s front and 315s in the rear but am afraid I will be rubbing through the IC hoses next. Any idea why this is happening? Any solution ideas?

If you rubbed through the fender liners, that is not something you should just not worry about, IMO.
Most likely your car is too low. The PO of my car did this when he had the car too low. Other things that could play into this: if you are getting more negative camber by pulling the upper control arms (e.g., with AP adjustable control arms) in vs. pushing the bottoms out with GT3 control arms. But, since you are running stock alignment, that is probably not the issue.
One thing that you could do to alleviate the problem is to put in a spacer between the rear wheel and rotor. You also have to use longer bolts.
Good luck,
Jon

Thanks Jon. I thought I might need a spacer. Any idea what size?
There are plenty of guys running PSS9s, and I don't hear anyone else bringing this up. When I change to the Motons, I was planning to lower it to GT2 height. And next year I would like to use R compound tires that will be 315/30/18 in the rear. Other than the coilovers, all my suspension parts are stock.

Ben the inner liners on the GT2 are different than the 996TTs. You have a whole different setup than we do...
Larry, Your car isn't as low as mine, but I had only MINOR issues with it. Not sure what's going on with yours, but spacers and lugstuds may need to be used.
You other guys need to take note... That tire rub usually happens RIGHT AT THE TURBO INLET HOSE! You really don't want the tire rubbing on a turbo hose, do you? Something to ignore??? Pretty sure I wouldn't ignore that.

Mike,
Are you saying the GT2 liners will not rub through with 335's. I was reluctant to get some cos I was not sure if they would. No point in buying them if they rub through..might as well stick with what I have. I know it is ride height and camber dependent.
Cheers,
Ben

Ben, No, what I'm saying is that a couple of factors make running a wider tire on the GT2 much easier than on a Twin Turbo.
The GT2 has a different suspension pickup point at all corners. It also has a deeper fender liner and braces for it to clear the turbo hoses properly...

Now is where I hear that old Channel 20 commercial about RIF... READING IS FUNDAMENTAL...
Just saw Ben's signature...
Larry, If Ben is running a WIDER tire without issue, find out what he's doing and do it...

Ben, are you using spacers in the rear? What camber setting do you have on the rear wheels? What width tires? Any other rear suspension part changes? What ride height?

I am currently not running the spacers on my car. I went out to the garage and checked. I have a pair of 19mm and a pair of 7mm spacers. If you want to try them, I can send them to you to evaluate. Send me a PM to sort out the shipping if you want to go this route.
BTW - you really need one of those little rods that threads into the hub to align the wheel when you use the wide spacers. It covers almost the entire lip, and makes it really hard to start the bolts if you don't have one. I realize that wasn't very articulate. Here's a picture of one (just a google result, not a recommendation).
