solution? drive faster during the daytime

Mine just plain didn't turn on (no lights - all or nothing). It was intermittent. Sometimes it would work if I turn the car off and turn it back on a few times. At least it's a cheap part ->

Good luck.

Thumbs up Excellent Post

This was an excellent post with great pics. Wish I could thank you personally and buy you a cold one.

My car failed inspection for headlights. Of course the dealership wanted $330 to replace the headlight switch. I was intent on replacing it myself and was set on buying a new one, dropping a hundred bucks and calling it a day, but then read about using MAF cleaner to clean the terminals. Well it worked for mine too, so thank you! Now I can take it back for inspection and finally get back to driving it. Its a garage queen, but now that the weather's nice here its top down season. I owe you guys!

PhatchitC4s will become famous soon enough
I just bought a 2004 C4s and i noticed that my passanger headlight is haveing problems. I took it out and tried resitting it and it wroked for a few days (at least i think it did) but now its back to me moving the switch to the on and off position to get it to come on. Is this a problem with the switch or is it a problem with the ballast. If anyone can help me out i would love it . Sorry to post on a old thread.Peace!

if it's just one side, it's probably the light itself- try a little sandpaper on the metal electrical connections- they may be corroded.

if it's both lights simulataneously, it's probably the switch.

cleaning question

Those of you who've cleaned with fluid, do you still do the entire disassembly illustrated in the post. This site is an amazing resource. Thanks for your replies.

2003 996 Targa with the very beginning of this problem. She is 8 and precotious so I really can't scold her.

Yes. The actual switch is the silver+red thingy in photos 6 and 7. Once it is removed it is pretty easy to clean.

could those who've cleaned with MAF post a pic showing exactly where to spray? My switch is starting to act up and I have a can of MAF cleaner in the garage.

Just a note about step #7. You do not need to pry the plastic bezel off with a metal tool. That will scratch the plastic and could leave pry marks. You can easily use two fingers and pull it off from the inside it does not clip in.. just kinda sticks in there.
