Lightweight battery?

Any consensus on this topic? I like to save weight wherever possible and the factory battery is BIG (and pretty much d - e - a - d DEAD).
I used to know this answer but when I sold my last 996 I dropped off the Porsche radar for a while and forgot a whole lot!

I have had the Odyssey PC 680 for almost two years. You will need a battery tender if you do not drive it every day. The mount is a Rennlist mount.

I'm interested in this too... anyone out there using a lightweight battery? I pretty much daily drive my car and no aftermarket stereo... I'd be open to something that i can knock off a few lbs w/o sacrificing reliability when i go to start it up after a few days w/o driving it...

odyssey?
hawkins?

Odyssey 928 is 1/2 weight of OE (which is 51)
No tender needed if driven at least a couple times a week.

What I did on mine to save weight and keep street drivability, I got a Die Hard battery(E2 group 47) from Sears for $125. It fits in the OEM tray with the OEM bracket. It uses the last hole in the OEM tray just like a GT2 and saves 19LBS.

+1 on the Diehard International. I paid 109.95 Canadian and it fits perfectly. Mine is 11 lbs. lighter than stock and has more cold cranking amps.

How did you secure the battery? Did you use a custom mounting bracket?

Great topic guys. I heard about this two years ago but saving weight helps in all aspects. Usual rule of thumb is 10lb=1HP, so for every 10 lbs you lose you increase by 1HP, may not be much but it adds up.

The rennlist mount weights one pound and is well made. i also purchased the Odyssey mount with the battery but went with the rennlist in the end.

I had the 680 also, but be forwarned, it is NOT a good deep cycle battery. So be sure you keep a tender on it if you're not going to drive it for a few days! Or at least disconnect it.
