Truth about coilpacks...
So, I decided to change the spark plugs and pulled the coilpacks out to find some BERU ultimate plugs, which tells me that they were probably never changed by looking at them.
Now, a couple of coilpacks have some cracks on them. It looks like the cracks are from the the transformer core rusting where exposed. Now , I've never had an issue with a missfire and I've datalogged the car on several occasions.
Whats the deal?

Its probably time to change coil packs on a 2002 TT. You can go with the stock Beru ones that will probably last as long as the first set did or you can go with the BBI upgraded version for a significant premium in price. BBIs give a stronger spark and should last longer than originals.

What I meant is: Is the "4 to 5 times more than stockers" price worth the "gain"?

I think that is a personal decision. Maybe BBi did, but unless someone had dyno'd a car on the same day, same dyno and just swapped coilpacks, and saw an increase in power, which could happen. They're not for me. At my power level, I can't see spending that much for coils. IMO, until I hear any great testing results, I think there are better gains for $900 or so. Not saying these are bad or a bad deal, just my opinion.

stock coils are in the 300-400$ range from suncoast
BBI coils are about 1000$
they have a 15whp claimed gain on a stock 996tt but havent seen any before/after dynos other then that one.

I'd be more concerned with durability of the coil packs from BBi. Are they going to last longer than the stockers? That's the real "benefit" to consider, in my mind, anyway!
